No, not without converting. EF2 is a whole diffrent game and easally putting stuff from one game to another won't work (unlike from Jedi Outcast to Jedi Academy).

You'll have to reprogram, remap and retexture the lot, basicly you'll do everything from scratch again . . .

The map scale in EF1 is fairly strange compared to the scale of EF2 - any maps you wanted to convert would be rather undersized. While EF1 and EF2 are based on the same game engine, the EF2 version is heavily edited.

You would also need permission from the author of each mod you wanted to convert.

Yep.

Converting Q3 mods to EF1 is moderately possible (EF runs on a modified Q3 engine) but you would need to recheck everything because the engine isnt fully Q3. However, EF2 is using a heavily improved EF1 engine. You would have to update everything in such a sense that you would be spending more time then when you did it from scratch. It is just plain different.

Then is there the issue of copyright and disclaimers etc, you need permissions to convert or modify most mods, and in other cases give proper credits.

You are better off with buying EF1 indeed, and the MP of EF1 beats EF2 IMO....

Thats not right EF2 is not using a improved version of EFs Quake 3 Engine, it uses original Quake 3 Engine with Ubertools (which are improvements to the Engine by Ritual which they created for FAKK2 and later on continued to improve for EF2).

Re: EF1 to EF2

I've known a few mappers that use Uber to design their EF1 maps, with no entities and with just caulk for texture, and make to copies of the map, one for EF2, then save the other one at the scale needed for EF1.

I hear that EF1 to EF2 takes a 1.6 scale increase, so you'd have to inverse that probably, of have a map that seems odd in size. Also EF2 will allow you to make more complex structures which may exceed EF1.

I am currently working with Bruce to make a few Romulan maps, that we hope to convert from EF2 to EF1 and EF1 to EF2 (Bruce does EF1) and I prefer to do EF2. :)
