BC won't install....

About two years ago, BC just stopped working. I couldn't do anything, and I uninstalled it. Since then, I've tried to reinstall it, to no avail. I've cleaned my registry of anything related to BC, but when I put the disc in, it acts like BC is still installed, even though it isn't. I'm running Windows XP SP2, a 2.66GHz Pentium 4, and 512MB of RAM, if that helps. I've tried everything I know of, please help!

go into regedit and look for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > ACTIVISION and delete the Star Trek Bridge Commander folder in there.

There is no BC folder in there, just SFC3.

XP Pro.

Re: BC won't install....

Make sure that the only thing in your Activision folder is SFC3 (unless there's other games in there too, just not BC).

When you put your CD in, does it give you the autorun? And if it does, is the Install option replaced by Play?

Re: BC won't install....

Believe me, SFC3 is the only thing in the Activision folder. The CD does give me the autorun, and the Install option has been replaced by Play, so it's the autorun you'd see if the game was fully installed.

Also, I tried moving everything on the CD to my hard drive and tried to run it there, but it didn't work.

Re: BC won't install....

Well that's... weird. Maybe you have BC installed (or atleast some BC files) somewhere on your hard drive?

Re: BC won't install....

The only thing I can think of is BCMP and BCMI.NET, but I'm pretty sure that they don't have anything to do with BC's install problem.

Re: BC won't install....

When you ran them, did they ask you to install the Foundation, or did they give you an error saying that BC wasn't installed?

Re: BC won't install....

There Might be a "simpler" solution. Make sure your actual Game Disk is not damaged. They have inexpensive CD Disk Cleaners to buff out any scratches and abrasions. It sounds like your CD Drive is trying to read a damaged disk. Probally why your Autorun is not showing up.

Interestingly, no. It reacts like nothing's wrong.

Tried it, still nothing. Also, the autorun is showing up, it's just reacting as if the game's installed, but it's not. The cleaner I have isn't the best one, I've never really liked it. I'll try to get a better one (I've had my eye on a Disc Doctor for some time now).

I just noticed something interesting, STBC and the demo both show up in Add/Remove Programs, however they both take up the same hard drive space, and I can't get rid of them, either.

Re: BC won't install....

Sorry about the double post. BCMP does say that the Foundation mod isn't installed, and it asks if it should install it.

Re: BC won't install....

Hmm... what kind of error message do you get when you try to remove BC and the demo from Add/Remove programs?

Solo03 January 24th, 2006 01:38 PM

Re: BC won't install....

"Unable to locate the installation log file 'E:\Program Files\Activision\Bridge Commander\stbc.isu' Uninstallation will not continue." For the demo, "Unable to locate the installation log file 'C:\Program Files\Activision\Bridge Commander Demo\stbc.isu' Uninstallation will not continue." This is probably due to the fact that I didn't uninstall both properly, and I seemingly can't fix it.

Hm. Well, I'm stumped. Sorry I couldn't help out more.

Re: BC won't install....

Believe me, you're not the first one. Funny thing is, BC worked perfectly before this.

Already tried it. That doesn't work either.

Re: BC won't install....

Have you tried uninstalling BCMP or BCMI.NET? They could be trying to find your STBC install and inturn 'tricking' your machine into thinking that STBC is still on there. The latest versions of BCMP and BCMI.NET are still really buggy so I would suggest getting rid of them, then trying to install STBC again. Im no expert at this so I might be wrong about the whole thing but if you've still got the BCMP and BCMI self-extracting (exe) setup files then it couldnt hurt to try what I said to you.

Re: BC won't install....

Well, I uninstalled BCMI without a problem, but BCMP is proving to be uncooperative. I keep getting an error message saying, "Del4.tmp has encountered a problem and needs to close."

You can see what I meant by 'buggy' in my earlier post. I get that messege all the time when trying to uninstall BCMP. What you need to do is manually delete the folder marked 'BC-Mod Packager' in the Program Files directory on your harddrive. After that, try reinstalling the game again. If it still doesnt work then ebay is always useful.

Re: BC won't install....

Well, I did what you said about getting rid of BCMP, but when I put the disc in, I still got the same screen I've always gotten, the one that still thinks that BC is on my PC.

Sorry that didnt work. I cant think of anything else you could try. Do Activision or Totaly Games! have forums? Maybe they have a professional technical team that could help out.

Yes I do, however if I click "Reinstall", nothing happens.
