Default Where do I learn how to make mods?

Hello everyone, my best friend has been going to these forums for a long time now and has been collecting STBC mods and trying to make his own mods by compiling other ones. However, he really wants to create his own mods, and eventually create a single player mode that would blow the campaign mode away. I'm a programmer with experience in Java, C, C#, Actionscript, and luckily Python.

My question to you all is this, where do we begin? Are there any books out on this subject or close enough to it that it can be applied to STBC? Where can we learn more about the innerworkings of STBC? I admit I haven't looked at any of the game's code in months, but I don't remember it as being partiuclarly self explanatory. Have any extremely comprehensive guides been written on the subject that assumes no experience in the field? I truly hope that you'll help us so that we can bring you something new to the table. Thanks everyone!

STBC forever.

Hi there atraub

There are no "books" out there about modding BC as it's not officially supported by CBS Paramount (Or Activision) but they don't seem to mind.

Anyway, there is the SDK (Software Developement Kit) that has a guide into modding BC. It's not the best but that's what most of us started out with.

Bridge Commander SDK

Another thing I can suggest, is to visit BCC or BCS forums and meet the other modders that frequent there.

Bridge Commander Central
Bridge Commandes Scripters

I hope your Python skills will come to use and welcome to the Bridge Commander Community. Please, kick up your feet and stay a while.

Neat!

If you hunt around the stickies on the boards mentioned above and also here, there are some good tutorials on 'simple' peices of scripting like mission and system creation. Another forum you might want to try is Bridge Commander Universe. Unfortunately, the site is all but dead now, but the info is probably there is you nose around .

Default thanks for your help

Thanks. Please feel free to post any other resources that might come to mind, or any particular posts or links that you felt really cleared things up for you. I'm hoping that I can compile the data I find and make some sort of comprehensive guide.

By the way how well does Maya work with Ship creation?
