raven production ok, i really need help here, im trying to build a raven class starship for bridge commander, i downloaded milshape from the internet, then found an old 3d model on my computer i had downloaded a long time ago on some site not relating to bc, i converted it to .nif format and replaced the stock shuttle model with that, it worked perfectly ingame, except, no textures, oh well, id figure out how to add those later i thougt i downloaded bcmp and mpe, i used an old nihydron ship script for the main ship script and edited it so that the models and harpoints led to my model file and a hardpoint file that wasn't there yet. I used mpe to load up my raven model, then added a hull and warp core (should be enough for my first test i thought to myself) finally, i used bcmp to create a quick plugin and then stuck it in my "custom" folder. i load bridge commander, load a quickbattle with my raven, and im stuck in bridge and can't get tactical view, and none of my crew will do anything, what did i do wrong?!?!, please help |

well, first of all, the hard point needs more systems than that. the SDK includes an example HP that you can work from, which has all the necessary systems, secondly, are you absolutely sure that you have all the files you need, and that everything is pointed to the right place? Take a look at any existing ship mod to be sure. |

you see, part of the problem is that most of the crew's functions are linked in some way to systems in the hard point, so if they don't see them, the game can have problems |
hmmm, well, everything seems to be in order and i added several properties into the hardpoint file, i submitted my work to filefront, it may or may not get into bc files, but if it does, someone please try to repair it for me |
ok, i got a console report and it say something to the equivilant of "name mismatch Raven in module filename (insert hardpoint file here)" |

No I haven't died, but what you must realise is that people have lives outside of FF... Right, get all the files for your ship, and compress them with WinRAR [Like ZIP, if you don't have it, Google it, easy enough to find] Then add that as an attachment to your next post. |

i know you better things to do, just wondering, did you find out was wrong? if I know whats wrong, i'd like to fix it and do some more work cus i got textures to work and it needs spif'n up (especially since the hardpoint only contains three very badly placed phasers and not even warp engines) |

From what I can see so far, the ship looks fine. Can you post a screenshot of that console report for me? (I'm on a non-BC-installed computer at the moment.) |

by the way when i choose resume it goes into an infinate "resume or abort?" loop and gets really wierd cus when i load this in full screen i dont get a console report |
Looks like you have put raven instead of Raven in the hp. python needs the correct case for the ships to work. best bet go through thee hp and make sure it is named correctly ~Jb06 JL Studios |

well, that was easy to fix, i checked the hardpoint and.... dude, i must b the most idiotic n00b in the world... how did i forgot to add a power plant!?!? lol. thnx for the support everyone, i was gonna release a beta but I realized that ingame the hardpoint sux, i can't fire phasers and turning is horrible, textures arent quite as bad as i expected tho, if anyone cares ill post a screeny |
well, here i am, back to be n00by! ok, i built the raven and successfully got it ingame, i got it to fly, and fire phasers, and thats where the problem is, originally the model was way to big, so i changed the scale to .1 and it was 1 before, it seemed to work but now the game thinks that the ship and all the subsystems are out in space instead of where they are supposed to be on the ship, in other words, its near impossible to hit the ship and phaser fire looks VERY strange, this is quite a major problem, oh and when the ship is destroyed it crashes the game, and the once that it didn't there was no real explosion, just a noise and a dissapearing ship, i appreciate all the help here people, please just stick with me a little bit longer |
My god your a n00b. :D You need to rescale the hardpoint aswell as the model. Its that simple. |
Dude, I don't ever remember you releasing a mod. You were once a "n00b" yourself, so don't insult this guy, if you don't think he's worth your time don't post here... I corrected those myself, and was just about to post it up today, lol, but yeah, you need to rescale the hardpoint as well, it's not really related to the model in that way. |
It wasn't meant as an insult. It was meant as contructive feedback. I would've thought he would've rescaled the hardpoint after rescaling the model since they really are 2 different sides of a mod and they need to be tweaked seperatly to get the deisred effect. Also, I did release a mod. Granted it was a SubMenu enabled set of ship plugins which, ironically, you told me how to do several months ago. I do Have a v2 in the works which will include detailed ship descriptions, custom warp speeds and SubMenu enabled again. All thanks to Sovvy's BCSMC tool. |
ok, well, 1. i know im a n00b, lol, ive said it myself, 2. im not exactly sure which i rescaled, the hardpoint or model, i went into edit, then option and finally changed the scale in the model scale bar. So, what do I change and how, really tho, thanx everyone, I know this whole thing makes me sound like an idiot, I intend probably to never make anything again after I finish this but im determined to get it to work cus I NEED this ship! |

well, the textures are horrible and the model is just about sickening, if i figure out how then Ill add textures, but thats not my emphasis right now, currently Im just trying to make a realistic hardpoint, if anyone wants id tell them to go ahead and make a new model, I found the one im currently using ages ago on a free 3dmodeling community website, so unfortunately I dont know the author :( |

well, thats really the only reason I decided to do this, because there was no other raven built for bc and i wanted to fly one of the beauties around, my only problem is im going to have to be VERY creative with the hardpoints since there is no real records of their capabilites. |
Well, I decided to try and clean up the mesh. First thing i noticed was soooo many unnecssarry polys! If started off with 3840 polys. Simply by removing unseen polys and merging polys (but without changing anything about the overall design), it now has 612! Which means that (once the textures are done), this current model would make a really good TAP model! |
cool! if your finished could you post the model here so I can see what changes i need in the hardpointing area? oh, and , excuse my n00biness but, what is TAP? |
The Armada Project?... There are a lot of abbreviations around here, it could mean more than one thing, easily. I've started on the textures. The necells have been improved, and part of the bridge section. I'll post them up once I get the glows working. |

Yeah, TAP is The Armarda Project, which basically means you can have large scale battles with small, low poly models. The model has not changed at all in shape. I've just removed all the unneccessary polys. I'll upload the new model somewhere and PM you and daedalus the link! |
hmmm, i thought the armada project was literally a conversion of bc to armada, or was that project cancelled long ago or something, you know, with the modding possibilities of bc its really possible to experience EVERY aspect of the star trek universe, fleet contruction, ship combat, and n now with immersion stuff like away missions and life on the ship |
No, it's more an adoption of the principals of Armada to BC. There's a trailer video somewhere... it invokes the stratagy elememt of Armarda and bring it into BC. As mentioned, it also allows you to have very large fleet battles. I think the best they got was 30 v 30 on an average computer... |
