Defiant Class Weapons systems

As some of you may be aware, BlackRook32 and I are developing a line of sister ships for the Defiant.

Since I am doing the hardpoints and weapons systems, I was looking for input from the community of what these ships should have.

I already have Cloaked Mines in the works, so anything you want to post should exclude this as a suggestion.

So get posting people....

captaincraig January 11th, 2003 09:07 PM

:deal:

1. tri-cobalt torpedoes
2. transphasic torpedoes
3. subspace torpedoes
4. phased phasers( from the recovered Dominion ship in that epidsode of DS9)

1. ablative armor

Thats what I figure should be on a contemporary Fed ship. To me, they would be gathering all they could to defend against the Borg. That stuff should do the trick...:D :naughty: :assimilate:

Cpt_Brock January 12th, 2003 04:50 AM

Definatively Ablative Armor. That is why the Defiant Class is so strong.

A Minelayer, Quantums, Photons. The Drain Weapon Damper should be included too.

strek January 12th, 2003 01:39 PM

1. Self-Replicating mines(if possable in BC)
2. Battle Phaser

elminster January 12th, 2003 02:19 PM

Urm, a description of the weapons system would be helpful if its not self explanatory.

Battle phaser doesn't really tell me much.

BlackRook32 January 12th, 2003 02:29 PM

I'm seeing some great ideals here. But it might be best if use the exsisting weapons that was already modded for the game be used. If Elminster has to build the weapons from scratch, it will delay the release of the Mod pack. But again that is his choice. If he chooses to do so.

BlackRook32 January 12th, 2003 02:34 PM

@elminster: You were asking me what the Compressed Phaser looked like from the DS9 4th season episode "Starship Down". The closest I've seen is the Nemesis Sovereign's Phaser texture. It looks weak, but it should suffice for the "one" shot deal from the Deflector Array. I'll send a sample of the texture by email.

elminster January 12th, 2003 02:41 PM

Thanks BlackRook, that'll come in useful.

As he said, existing weapons mods would prevent a delay, as I don't have to build them.

Bear in mind what type of ships the defiant class's are, and what weapons they would logically be outfitted with, that would work well.

A lot of your suggestions are along the lines of what I was thinking, so thanks for the confirmation, nice work.

Keep them coming in, and thanks.

Elminster

Hello,

May I suggest that you use Advanced Technologies Pack 1 for the Ablative Armour, with this you don't make the another hull property (somewhat) useless. And the best thing is, if you don't have it installed than it doesn't affect your mod (you just won't use it that's all, it won't crash BC). I have the Prometheus HP from Elminister and that had the Ablative Armour, but it wasn't used, so I added for myself the correct code for the Ablative Armour (and now I can take out my own modded ships without taking a scrats to the Warp Cores just the Armour it self). This is just a tip, you can download it Wrom: VIBGDADRZFSQHYUCDDJBLVLMHAALPTCXLYRWTQTIPWIGYOKSTT ZRCLBDXRQBGJSNBOHMKHJYFMYXOEAIJJPHSCRTNHGSWZIDR
You should read the site or it won't help you much.

@ Mldaddler: Thanks for the tip and suggestions. I'm sure Elminster will add it with the HP when we release the Avenger. Don't worry about the triple post, it's the first time I've seen it happen here before, but it was common at the former BCN forums. ;)

Sorry that was Internet Explorer doing a backwards salto.

Thanks for the info, I do have the ATP, but have not had the chance to check out how to integrate it with hp's.

I'll try and research it, and hopefully put it in future hp's.

What i mean by batle phaser is a highly overpowerd phaser.

elminster January 18th, 2003 08:32 AM

ok, thanks for the info, I think something along those lines is going to be used on the Sao Paulo. :)

elminster January 20th, 2003 05:36 AM

Ok here's what I need.

Could someone with experience in making torps create some micro quantums for me, otherwise I'll have to copy the standard quants and tone them down a bit.

They should have the following characteristics;

Quarter the size of a regular quantum.
White core with blue glow.
The core should be about a third of the diameter of the glows.

I can alter the other aspects to suit, so just concentrate on the look.

Any contributions in this area would be greatly appreciated.
Or if anyone already has a torpedo released that you would be happy for me to use in the mod pack, please post here.

Thanks

Elminster

I need some feedback on the above post, It will be difficult to balance the Paccia without the MicroQuantums.

BlackRook32 January 29th, 2003 08:14 AM

MicroQuantums...

@Elminster: I've found some MicroQuantums for you. I'm waiting for an reply from the Author to use them. I'll let you know if we can use them or not in the mod pack.

I think it would be likely that the feration would build most of its defiant class ships on the specs of the succesful Defiant. I love the work you guys are doing, i think that the standard photons, quantums and pulse and beam phasers would be canon. thats just my two cents, and i appreciate that u want sum variation on the norm.
Just out of interest tho, is there any way to tone down the damage on the defiants, coz after a while, its just a nacelle flying around.

The purpose of doing this Mod pack is to add "different" weapons on the Defiants. Which was mentioned in the TNG 4th season episode "The Best of Both Worls Pt.II." Commander Shelby said the Starfleet Reasearch and Developement had some experimental weapons on the "drawing board" to counter the Borg threat? When the Defiant was basicly taken out of the mothballs by Captain Sisko. She retained her experimental weapons. Well the Defiant Mod pack will reflect this statement of Star Trek Canon.

elminster February 9th, 2003 07:57 PM

Ok people, I could do with some more suggestions for weapons. Try and keep them to existing mods, or ones that can be more easily developed to cut down on the release time.

Thanks

DefiantCal February 25th, 2003 11:46 PM

I would like to see the addition of the dorsal column-shaped phaser array on the Defiant that you see it using many times in that episode of DS9 where the Defiant takes on Worf's Negh'var in the alternate universe. I noticed also that that phaser had a slightly different sound effect and impact sound than the "standard beam phaser", it would be neat if somehow that could be included as well.

As for the "experimental weapons on the drawing board" referred to in Best of Both Worlds, I would think some variation of a "phased" phaser weapon to correspond to Dominion weaponry would seem like a logical avenue of research, since we already know for fact that the Federation (eventually) goes in that direction with torpedoes (transphasic) as an anti-Borg design. Maybe, to balance it for gameplay and multiplay, it would have an excessively long charging time, but would go clean through shields when it actually hit.

Perhaps this is REALLY overstretching what you can do in the game, but since I don't really know anything about modding, I will just throw it out there as an idea anyway. What about the possibility of being able to modulate shield nutation? Perhaps have a "weapon" that when "fired", temporarily made the ship's shields invulnerable (or boosted them?), which would be a very neat addition vs. Borg. (You could use it just as you saw those 6 borg torpedoes flying in) It would be neat if this were a separate strategic option rather than just integrated as "stronger shields", as with the Sovereign currently.

Bumped and unstickied.

captain obvious March 11th, 2003 10:47 AM

how about a mega phaser? or cloaked torpedoes? or mabye a weapon which recarges/reloads a friends weapons? another idea weould be to have torps which dock with a target, and continually cause damage for a certain amount of time?like a limpet mine. overloaded photons?

borg121 March 11th, 2003 12:43 PM

How bout Transphasic Phasors?(Can't belive no one's thought of this b4.) Or subspace weaponry? And how bout a Point Defence Laser, and everything in the Adv. Tehc. Pack?
