It depends on the model. Stock models that come with the game have a publically available importer. I think its available both here and at AFC. If your after importing a non stock model, i.e one created by say, myself, then thats somewhat more difficult. There exists an importer but due to the issues of stolen model assets being used without permission and no credit given on several occasions in the past it was removed from public usage. A very small handful people (of which I'm not one of them) still possess it and of those I've no idea if they still use it. Another program - Ultimate Unwrap 3d, does have an importer for it, but the program will not resave without being registered.
well i have the one for the stock sods.... that was easy. but i mean really... its kinda lame that there isnt a easy way.. who wants to edit stock sods anyways? lol. i just want to get rid of the stupid rainbow colors from some of the work the people did on fleet ops. if anyone knows how i can take a NON stock sod and use it with milkshape that would be soooooooooo sweet. like the shuttles that fly around.... even with all the textures... they are still rainbow.... i cant figure it out
Hmmmm. I thought I answered that with my reply. Your best bet is to make a request to the Flops team but I can probably guess the immediate answer knowing how many modellers feel about the reusage of unconverted assets.
Take it this way: Making a model from scratch with textures needs about 100 workhours. Then you come and call its coloring "stupid". It isn't stupid, it looks awesome in FleetOps.
by the way, they won't say no because they're a*ssholes and they don't want you having fun with Armada II.
FleetOps policy from the very beginning was that they don't allow any reuse of their models. They want their mod to be unique. Any FleetOps material you may find separately form FO itself were released without permission.
yeah maybe in fleet ops it looks nice.... but what about the people that like the ships but dont want fleet ops? the stuff there is really good..... thats why i want to have some of the stuff in my game.... but i cant get it to look the way it should. and i think that is stupid
One simple word - "tough". If thats the policy of Flops mod makers then thats the way it'll stay and having a dummy fit won't change it. Instead of complaining here why not complain to those who made the mod in the first place??
The Fleet Ops devs allow a fair amount of their non-model stuff to be released, and there's no problem with changing stuff for a personal mod - just be sure to check the modding guidelines if you are planning on a public release
As for editing/removing the bump maps - I'm not sure how it's done, but you may want to ask some experienced texturers on MSFC.com.au or fleetops.net if it is possible (perhaps Jetfreak? I'm not sure).
