Default Graphics initialization failed

I have recently installed Armada II and have run into an error while trying to play the game. Before the splash screen even loads I get an error stating "Graphics initialization failed. No compatible Direct3D8 hardware accelerator detected." I have looked all over the place for tech support (it seems Armada II is no longer supported by Activision) and for help topics on forums such as this but found nothing that has helped. They all seem to tell me to update my graphic card drivers and update DirectX, both of which I have done. I'm running the latest version of DirectX and have updated drivers for me Nvidia Quatro FX 570M. I am also currently running Windows XP, though trying to run the .exe in windows 95/98/2000 compatibility mode doesnt seem to have any effect. Has anyone else had this issue or know what I can do to fix this? Thanks for your time.

A recurring problem that has been discovered with Armada is that some newer video cards don't work with the game. If you have an onboard video card in addition to the one you are currently using, try switching to that. Rolling back drivers can also help. Some people also have trouble with getting Armada to run on XP. Personally, I run XP and haven't encountered any problems with it.

Perhaps we should compile a list of video cards that are either known to work or known to have problems.

Good night, forum. Good work. Sleep well. I'll most likely kill you in the morning.

In my experiance its the DirectX. A2 tends to choke on DirectX 10. roll back to 9

In Life unlike Chess the Game continues after CheckMate
