Default Graphics Issue/Annoyance

Hey all,

I've been having this problem lately that maybe somebody here has had before and can help me with.

I run Armada 2 on a 19 in. monitor with a screen resolution of 1280x1024x32.

When I start the game, my comp freezes up. I have control of the Start Menu and I reboot, but when when computer comes back up, the resolution is
800x600x16. The game then plays under those conditions.

Has anybody had a problem like this before? Anybody have a solution?

I know everyone will ask you if you have the Armada 1.2 patch, latest drivers for your video card and are running latest Direct X so I'm sure you are OK there. Can you you change the resoultion higher if you start the game at 800x600x16? Is your moniter refresh rate at 85MHz or higher? Low refresh rate can do that sometimes.

There's a 1.2 patch? I have the 1.1 patch...I guess I should download that one too.
I checked my refresh rate and unfortunately it doesn't go above 75MHz. My video card is a Diamond 770 ultra. Diamond isn't in the video card business anymore. My comp is about 4-5 years old. I appreciate the help though.

Sorry I got my games mixed up. 1.1 is the only patch. Someone somewhere on another forum was having problems with a Diamond too so that could be the thing. Technically Armada is an older game and should run on an older vid card though. As long as you have the last set of drivers they put out it should be OK.

I am not truly certain that the higher res is at all that big a deal unless you zoom in pretty close for greater detail views. In big clashes with lots of ships it doesn't seem to be greatly better in my opinion. Newer video cards are pretty cheap these days though so consider that.
