Default texture tools and modding tools.

Would someone be able to suggest some good texturing tools to use for modding because I don't want to copy and paste stuff forever. Preferably something with a good interface that's not that hard to use. Anything will work for me as long as I can texture stuff.

What do you mean with "texturing tool"? A tool to create textures, or to place them on the meshes. For the first, I use Photoimpact, for the second, the MS3D has an excellent tool.

For texturing, Photoshop is a good tool but I've heard about some other programs like Corel, Paintshop pro or Gimp. What I know Gimp is a free software to download.

Assimilate this!

I use paint shop pro myself but if you are looking for a free program there is also Paint.net and even normal MS paint can be used for very simple textures like build buttons if you download Irfan View to convert .tga to .png and back again.

As for modeling I use Milkshape 3d it's not to dear and has a 30 day free trial.

Milkshape 3D is a good program to use for modelling, and it is somewhat cheap to purchase. In regard to Texture Software though, I'd suggest only Paint Shop Pro, or Photoshop. Paint.net and GIMP have problems when it comes to the lightmaps on textures.

Basicaly what I need is something to make the meshes and then to put textures on them. Which one would gimp do or does it do both because I have a bit of experience with it?

Hello staingar - A!

If you want to create meshes, then Milkshape 3D is the way to go. This is a simple and effective (cheap too!) 3D modeling suite. If you have any trouble adding textures to models with it, PM me, I will try to help you out?

Gimp is only a paint program, as far as I know...Personally, I cant see past Paintshop Pro - Its cheap, and can do many of the things photoshop can at a fraction of the price.

So - in summary;

For making meshes and applying textures Milkshape 3D (just Google the name and you'll find the site to download from )

For creating and editing your own textures, Paint Shop Pro (in my opinion) is best - Its over the counter sale, or from JASC Software (im not sure where, you'll have to search, or ask someone else here, my copy is "special" )

Good luck man!

Also, w00t!!! 200 posts!......

sorry.
