Random Shipyard Construction

A quick question here, of which can be answered in two ways. Those being, with the FleetOps Patch, and also without it.

What I am interested in knowing, is whether it is possible to have different ships built, using the same build button. If that doesn't make sense, allow me to expand upon what I am trying to say.

Say, for example, that we selected a shipyard, and clicked on the Excelsior Class. That shipyard (or the workings behind it) then decide whether they're going to build you a standard Excelsior Class, or whether they're going to provide you with the Refit version. It would be nice also, if we could put odds on it, so that you'd get a standard Excelsior 3/4's of the time, and the Refit the other 1/4 (as they are rarer).

The same would eventually apply to the Nebula Class, and any other ship (such as the Miranda) that has some sort of variation. Simply, can what I'm looking for be done?

Well I know that the replace weapon has the ability to change a ship into a ship a percentage of the time - so there's that part possible.

As for the ship thing, the only way I think it would be possible (at the moment) would be to have some sort of dummy ship built that would auto-fire the replace weapon. Then again, I'm not even sure that is possible...

Best bet I'd think is to PM Doca or Optec. If they say it can't be done then chances are you'll have to wait for the next patch (after you've politely bugged them to include just such a feature :p)

That would be AMAZING.

Why not to create a switch on/switch off ship like Voyager changing into armored Voyager and vice versa?

You can't include the probability factor into the stock 1.1 build, but you certainly can build a 'base' model package, and use an upgrade fusion script to add on a pod or refit. If all the special weapons on the 'base' model package were upgrade fusion scripts, you'd be able to program them all to work, but the AI would probably never use it.

Fascinating. I was planning on using a fair bit of upgrades in my mod (esecially the TOS to TMP shift so you don't have to just scrap all those TOS ships you built) But the probablity factor would be awesome for hero ships... I was planning on having the Hero Enterprise of course but in each era a secondary Hero and it's been tough picking them... with that you could get a random one. NICE!
