Well, its good to be back...

Anyway,

I am currently working on a Halo conversion for A1, and intend to update this thread every now and then...:)

I am in a bit of a rush just now - Im heading on a snowboarding trip so details will be forthcoming - but know this - This mod will rock (at least I hope so).

However, to first things first - The name.

I have a few thoughts, but I would be interested to have some community input as well - many hands light work etc...

I am thinking;

Halo: Strategy Evolved

Halo: Armada Evolved

Halo: Fleet Commander

Halo: Fleet Combat

Which do you guys think is best? Im open to other suggestions?

More info in a week or so...

Nice too see you plan to carry on with this, I quite like the sound of Halo: Fleet Command, rather than Commander.

And IKS - from what I've seen, hes doing all the models and textures himself, no converting :)

Ok, thanks for the help all,

Halo: Fleet Command...

Has a ring to it...

As for any converting etc... All models and textures etc... will be by me... does anyone remember the pain that Ultimate Dragon went through with his Halo mod? Just because there was a chance that some of the material was ripped?

So I state clearly that no materials used in this mod will come directly from any of the Halo games - although the Halo universe and all contents there in are the intellectual property of Bungie, all of the materials in this mod are by me - and some are even my own designs.........

But more later - I will post a complete list of what I plan to do later today - maybe tomorrow... I need to do some work after all...

Oh, also, all of the A1 modders that are still at large - please keep checking in here, as I have very little experience of modding A1 - I may need your help...;-)

Here is the first (of many I hope) updates to Halo:Fleet Command!

Just the four images so far...I do have many more models, just dont have time to take pics of them all right now...

First - the CCS;



A bit poly heavy - 2500 or so, but the whole point of this mod is that you wont have huge fleets...but more on that later...

Next - the CNC Needler Corvette;



This unit will act as an anti fighter ship - spitting hundreds of needler shards into space!

Next - Just a size comparison - Im not sure, but the CNC could do with being a little smaller?



Hm?

And last, A Covenant swarm!!



Again, I think the Seraph is too big...

Hey, thanks for the positive feedback guys! Also, Majestic! its good to see you round here again! I really should visit MSFC more often!

Just a wee update here, showing some of the UNSC models I have been building...

First, here is the Type 11 Corvette - fills a similar role to the Covenant Needler Corvette...



Its a little smaller than the UNSC Frigate, but has no MAC cannon...many many Machine guns though...

Here is a comparison with the Longsword model I plan to use...



I know - the longsword is a little inaccurate - I will probably play around with the shape a little - but I want 100's of these on screen at once - so they need to be low poly...

Next, lets play spot the Ship Class...






He (or She, It, They, whatever...) who can name all of the Ship Classes in these images wins my eternal respect (and possibly a cookie, but not Pie)

Thanks, yeah things are sure happening over there.

The mod looks awesome I love Halo, if only A1 worked correctly on my PC.

Hey,

Less of an update and more of a question...

If I were to look into having the UNSC side with no shields, is it a simple case of in the units odf having;

shieldGeneratorHitPoints = 0
enginesHitPoints = 10
weaponsHitPoints = 10
lifeSupportHitPoints = 10
sensorsHitPoints = 10


or would the units continually have that ugly shields down sprite on them the whole time?

Has anyone experimented with shieldless vessles before?

Yeah. You also have to set "maxShields = 0" and "maxHealth = XXX" for it to work, though, IIRC. The Borg in my build don't use shields, and they don't have the shields-down sprite, work just fine, function without shields normally.

Oh, and dont worry - the texture shown above is only a place holder, so I can see how the model looks when rendered by the A1 eng. I will do proper textures, I promise!

Same here, fortunatly it doesn't take too much work to get A1 mods to work in A2 :)

Well, it has always been my intention for this to be an A2 mod...

It is just circumstance that has forced me to mod A1 for now... not to say that this mod wont be done for A1 - I want to have a version for A1 and A2... the A1 version will come first, and when I get my proper gaming laptop, and A2 version will follow...

Wow! That Prowler Class looks amazing!

The speed at which you're getting these models done is truly impressive. Will you be doing the UNSC orbital defense platform as well?

Thanks dan! Im kinda proud of the Prowler too!

I had some time on my hands, end of last week...So I thought I would get as much done as possible.

Im back to my usual routine now, so things may slow a little...

But never fear, I'll get there eventually. As for the MAC platform - not sure, probably not for the release version, but maybe as a map unit? Or as an addon later? Or for the single player campaign? (yes, Im planning on retaining single player mode, Halo style! - your eyes do not deceive you...)

Not at all mate, thanks fot the reference material!

Im currently working on texturing the Covenant Needler Corvette, but its slow going - Im on to the third texture ( I just wasnt happy with the first two - its tough being the 3d artist, the 2d artist, the concept guy, update guy, coding guy, general tea maker and dogs body and the mod leader all rolled into one, you know!)

but never fear, I plan to have it done by end of week...

hey, just another wee update.

Im planning on updating less in the future - possibly once a month, that way there will be more to tell you all about...

Sort of an official monthly update type situation...maybe bi - monthly...

Anyways,

I have completed the first UNSC capital ship texture...

I have two versions - one is the shiny just out of the factory new frigate texture, and the other...well lets just say its got a few miles on it, eh?


Yes, those are sharks teeth - I figured if its good enough for WW2 pilots, its good enough for the UNSCDF... But the question is, which texture should I use?

I was thinking the clean one for a standard unit, the dirty one for a hero / map unit (I was thinking UNSC Avenger, if you get my drift...?)

Thats an absolutely outstanding texture (and model too) there and I agree with your choice on having the clean one for the buildable and dirty for the hero. ;)

Pretty much exactly what I was gonna say lol, well done indeed the ship looks amazing, and I agree with Majestic; clean for the buildable and roughed up for the hero :)

I wonder what would happen if someone was to take the UNSC, the UFP, the Galactic Empire, the Colonial Fleet, and the Minbari and fling them into a meatgrinder...

The Covenant Assault Carrier is quite possibly my favourite ship design from the Halo series, and you've done a fantastic job of creating it! I love the detal and the textures look excellent. Well done indeed! :)

Why thank you Dan! I have to admit though - it comes at a price - four 512x512 textures and 4200polys or so...

You will only have two of these max at any one time though - they will be stupidly powerful and extremely resource heavy.

Yep, this mod was originally meant to be for A2 - but moving to Norway and other factors meant that I only have an ancient Dell laptop to work with - but Im looking into getting an older Alienware or Rock laptop - nothing special - just enough to run A1, A2 and Homeworld2...

Good question! - You know that Majest(ic) over at MSFC has an A2 mod called Parallels, right (at least I think it was released?) It should have some answers for you...=p

Looking great Dino, I am loving the work you are doing here and even though my sound doesn't work right for A1, I will still be playing and downloading this as it look like one memorable mod. :)

It unfortunately was cancelled but a lot of the material has or is going to be released over at MSFC once we get a major upgrade out of the way and upgrade our hosting package. ;)

As for that meatgrinder... I did that minus the halo units of course and besides 4 months of hair pulling (I'm now quite bald at only 23 thanks to modding a2) it was really fun for like 2 weeks... then my perfectionist side came out again and I fiddled it into a "out of Memory increase swap file" hell. But oh yeah if you got the patience and the hair to try it, throw them together...

Awesome news on the a2 version i will definately be looking forward to that! Even my fiancee kicks my butt at the HALO games, i jsut stink at them for some reason, but i LOVE LOVE LOVE the books. So this is awesome! Keep up the great work!

Cheers man! I reckon because of the way that glows, borg (read FLOOD) textures and such are done in A1 that this mod will actually run a hell of alot better in A2 - I just need to get myself a new computer...

Very nice - love the grey texture (never been a fan of purple, except Vimto...).

Wow! love the CCS, both texture versions look excellent! Maybe use one as the standard buildable version (the purple one I think, since that one was seen in the games) and the grey one as some kind of armoured variant?

Either way the model and textures look great! :)

Looking awesome, the purple one was see in Halo 1 and I think the grey ones were in Halo 2 and 3 so maybe use the grey ones as Dan suggested, that being upgrades or something using the fusion weapon.
