Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod Well I've been hard at work creating new weapon effects and I have 3 new ones to show you here: Fuel Rod Launcher - A mid-ranged, slow moving weapon assigned to the Gigas Bomber. It does a fair amount of damage, more than a plasma cannon but less than the weapons on larger warships. Spoiler: I created that one to closely resemble the fuel rod weapon you can use in Halo2. Plasma Torpedo - A powerful, fairly small moving torpedo weapon found on larger ships such as cruisers and the massive Assault Carrier. It does a large amount of damage, but has a slow firing rate. Spoiler: Spoiler: I designed the torpedo effect to look like the ones you see hitting the Pillar of Autumn in the first Halo cutscene. Heavy Needler - A larger, more powerful version of the common handheld weapon, the weapon has a very fast firing rate, though each projectile does very little damage, it takes a large number of hits to destroy a large ship. The projectiles are slow moving, but will track their targets over longer distances than most weapons. Spoiler: Fairly obvious the inspiration for this one, I just tried to make it as similar to the needler projectile from the handheld weapon as possible. Enjoy, and as always comments are welcome :) |

These issues I have been unable to fix due to for the past 18 months my life has been in an up-turn with various family disasters, hospital visits and personal matters/issues that almost caused by death plus other ringarooma that I don't need to go into. However hopefully as things settle down and my stress levels decrease (i'm like a boiling kettle these last few months) I'll be able to fix them. Currently my main focus concerning the site is to get a new skin up that will remove those issues for guests and people trying to register. Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod We're working on the mod on a race-by-race basis, releasing each one as it's finished, the Covenant are simply being done first. After the Covenant we'll be doing the UNSC, then the Flood and Forerunners. Just be patient, we'll get to it :) |

Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod CABAL you're not dead! also - it looks good - really good :) only one comment. Can it have some more transparency? I ask because the GUI always takes up alot of the screen, and I think that it should not be too invasive. Extra transparency would allow you to see through it, increasing the playable area of the screen... Bad guys could not hide behind the GUI... Other than that, It looks absolutely awesome! And MaP - I agree, it doesnt look like A2 at all - it looks waaaaayyy better ;) Also - what ever came of that friend of yours that needed modding help? the one from the EaW community? If he still needs help, he can PM me? |

Second, I would like to say that yes, FG is correct, I did have a rather painful accident with a bottle of boiling water whist attempting to unfreeze my bike lock just before Christmas... Leaving me with a nasty scald on my left hand, and a slightly misshapen claw - rather difficult to type with... and painful to boot... I am now, however 100% fit and healthy (only a bit of scarring on my fingers on my left hand...) So, this, along with business things (work, huh?) my lack of a gaming / modding PC, the whole Christmas period etc... (In which I have been back to Scotland, the Fatherland... To Brussels, and to the mountains for a skiing trip) have conspired to keep me away from the mod. Now, however, I have some good news - as FG knows, and as I have been ranting on about for a very VERY long time, I am finally getting a new PC... it lives here just now; Datakjeden Webshop / TOSHIBA Satellite A500-19P 16" WXGAGeForce GT230, Core2Duo P7450, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, DVD±RW, Webcam, W7 Home but around 15th January (when I get paid;) ) It will be mine, oh yes, it WILL be mine... mwahahahaaaaa! Then I can get on with the rest of the mod... Other good news! I am learning Blender! It is superior to MS3D in so far that it can do more things to meshes... but inferior in that it is nowhere near as user friendly... I am also working on learning to use GIMP, in addition to PSP9... So expect the UNSC models to outshine the Covenant ones... In a kinda dirty and angry low tech way... So, sorry that Ive been neglecting the mod, and dont worry, it will soon get back into the swing of things!! |

Thanks for the heads up, I will look into the graphics card a wee bit more closely now... Also, I have another covenant model ready to go, the NEST... - I realise that the textures ive been making in PSP8 dont always work, but I now have GIMP, so I will try opening and saving them in GIMP first, to see if that helps... pics will be following here and at home, on MSFC... so keep checking back... I will send a copy to Dan, and also to you, FG - so that you can go about the HPing duties... Dan seems to have a lot of RL to deal with right now... On a further note - I have been collaborating with CanadaMan7, a SoaSE modder, and some of my models (tweaked, somewhat) have found their way into SoaSE Sins of the Prophets... But looking at the team we have assembled here - I think H:FC is gonna look great! Just thought I would post a wee bit of info here, non MSFC folks - I have been off modding for about a month, due to work, RL, having no PC etc... But now... I'm not going to try texturing it, in my opinion for that baby to look awesome you'd need at least 1024x1024 textures, maybe even 2048s. But thats just me and my nit-picky-ness lol. |

Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod Hey guys - yeah, I think slump is the word to use... a combination of work (Ive been to Brussels on business twice in the last month) holiday time (Ive spent the last week in a cabin in the mountains with no lights / internet / plumbing etc... kinda like a hermit...) work again (we are really close to signing my first contract deal at work... it means a big bonus... also that I keep my job...) also accounts on Stardock AND Steam (DoW: Soulstorm and Borderlands FTW) plus I cant get Blender to work on my new laptop, also MS3d won't register (I might have to buy a new license... Anyone else have issues gettign MS3d to to register on 64bit Windows7?) But, other than that list of excuses... slumpy... thats how I would describe things... I am getting my mojo back, slowly but surely though... Im gonna go for a new MS3d license tomorrow, end of week at the latest, then we'll see... |
Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod Well it's been forever since I did anything with A2 other than minor changes to my own install, RL has been crazy lately even with the end of my uni exams. Now though I've finally reached the big stretch of free time I have for this summer, and I've gotten back to modding. So with that I've finally cleared the backlog of H:FC models that DJ has sent me. Starting off with a new Covenant unit, the Illumination Class scout corvette, designed to locate Forerunner artifacts, as well as filling a general scout and patrol function: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Next is one of the Covenants non-combat units and it's corresponding station, the Unggoy Mining Freighter and the Plasma Refinery: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Next up is what I'd call one of DJs best models since the Haven, the Covenant Nest fighter yard/deployment facility. Part shipyard and part turret, these mid-sized automated stations build and deploy Seraph, Gigas & Tarasque Class fighters, and are armed with heavy needlers and point defense lasers: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: Now for a change, a UNSC unit, the Prowler Class, small and not all that well armed, these ships are used for stealth missions by the mysterious Office of Naval Intelligence: Spoiler: Spoiler: Spoiler: And now for something different; the first Forerunner units placed ingame for H:FC, the Onyx Sentinel and Onyx Sentinel Pair. These small killing machines guard various Forerunner installations, and singe units can combine into pairs to increase firepower & shielding. Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod Actually, since there is no real image of the Onyx Sentinel, that model could work. The book only says 'boom', but 'Halo: The Flood' describes the Sentinel (the Halo Installation one) looks like a 'cube with wings' if I remember correctly. |
Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod The description you are thinking of, icebite, is that of the halo instalation sentinels, wich are created on the fortress-world rings, not the shield-worlds, such as Onyx. I'll give you the paragraph of descriptive text for that one as well since it has been mentioned; Book: -Halo: The Flood- Spoiler: Also, remember that the halo monitor AI, 343Guilty Spark, may have been rampant at that time, also he may have altered the design of his instalations sentinels for more efficency, as he was fully capable of doing so. The sentinels on Onyx are presumably unaltered from the original design, seeing as the re-activation of the shield-world was very recent, and the worlds steward was most likely dormant till the signal from the halos awakened it. 343Guilty Spark was the staward of Instalation 04, and had full acess to all systems and functions of said instalation for millions of years, while the Onyx systems had not been run in millions of years. The descriptions are fundamentaly similar, but there are many permutations of the sentinels to consider, the monitors themselves for example, are a form of sentinel-like construct. They all seem to have spheroid cores, some have arms, those arms may vary, and the designs on/around the central bodys may vary as well. Point being, the design was said to be of an Onyx sentinel, if I remember corectly, so I found it's description and threw it in there for reference, if it could be of any help. P.S. Ah, and I think I might have figured out a way to create the grouping affect of the Onyx sentinels for the more powerful blast described... post a reply if you want to hear it, otherwise I'll be trying to gather a bit more info for it. |

Re: dinosaurJR's Halo Mod Ok so on the game, speices 8472, has the biopulse super-weapon, it takes around 6-8 battleships, grouped with a frigate, the battleships fire their energy into the frigate, and it combines the beam and amplifys it. Thereby I think if we use a similar aproach, and modify this weapon to work with a grouping of sentinels,and perhaps 1 special sentinel, and give it a good range, it'll balance the playing feild. Mind you I'm no good at modifying weapons, so this is only a sugestion, but if you guys could get this to work I will gladly test it out on my setup. :) Also, I can lurk the halopidia forums for a good sentinel idea for the central one... (I WANT TO TEST STUFF) P.S. Found a candidate,the normal sentinels(Ring world forms) have a stronger variant, the enforcer Sentinels, they are colored diferently and have slightly stronger weapons. We can use this idea and create a specific type just for this task. |
