Help with crew kill rate!
 
I have a ship with 5500 crew and no shields, after say 10 shots the crew is down to less than half. How do I get the crew loss to be very small??

You can alter the amount of crew killed for each ship system by adding this to the ships ODF file:

//************************************************** ********************
//CREW CASUALTY FOR SYSTEM DESTRUCTION
//The percentage of crew killed when the engines are destroyed
enginesCrewLoss = 5.0f
//The percentage of crew killed when the lifesupport is destroyed
lifeSupportCrewLoss = 3.0f
//The percentage of crew killed when the weapons are destroyed
weaponsCrewLoss = 2.0f
//The percentage of crew killed when the shields are destroyed
shieldGeneratorCrewLoss = 2.0f
//The percentage of crew killed when the sensors are destroyed
sensorsCrewLoss = 2.0f
//The percentage of crew lost every second while life support is disabled
lifeSupportLoss = 2.0f

Just raise or lower the percentage value for each system to alter the number of crew killed with each hit.

Also, the rate at which the hull is repaired? is it the same as the shield repair rate (shieldRate = xxx)??

You also have to look at the weapons. All the weapons have a have a crew killed percentege per shot. Thoughs have to be ajusted down low too.

These are the entries

//The multiplier by which any damage which exceeds the threshold is
//multiplied by to calculate the percentage of crew lost with that hit

shieldCrewModifier = 0.02
//The multiplier by which any damage which is applied to the hull is
//multiplied by to calculate the percentage of crew lost with that hit
//Can be applied to specific ships in format default "shipname.odf" 0.9 (this is a multiplier)
hullCrewModifier = 0.01

You find them in ordinance files. These entries have already been adjusted down in this file so the weapon won't massacure crew like the stock weapons. Ok for the repair stuff check you Race, craft, and station odfs. Remember if your units have alot of hull damage point to loos they will take longer to fixs so jack up the repair rate. Also the individual odf can be set to override these files to give each ship or staion its own rate.

This is from the race odf...

"repairStrength = 7.0f"

Try adding that to your ship odf with a lower number.

repairRate or hullRate may also be possiblities.
