Art of War error thread
 
please post bugs to be fixed here, any map or even suggestions, here's what I have so far.

Physics are irritating to some
rcruise2a causes crashes
wireframes are really bad

please add to them and I will release a patch for the beta before I fully focus on the Klingons...

Well here are the bugs that I found:

- Ships moving in circles and incredibly hard, if not impossible to control
- rcruise2a causes a game crash(maybe a missplaced hardpoint or a missing weapon file)
- torpedoes firing in all directions
- the romulan pheonix facility requires a second resource that is NOT available in the mod unless you play on infinite resources
- the uninstaler is either displaying an error message(and therefore it doesn't work) or it screws up the game and you have to reinstall it

hmm no bug but i think Talon and Phoenix facility + phoenix class could need a redo so they look like all the other stuff ingame.

well i posted most of my findings in the comments section, but i must say that i also find th romulan turrets far superior to the cardassian ones. the shockwave turret is almost impossible to beat as a pack if u secure them with topedo ships. i played that way against waves of cardies and doms - was a draw in the end because i got bored to kill the huge amound of starbases the AI build.

second, the maps dont fit the strategy. dill-moons are useless, planets are to be mined for dill - i dont get that. and most maps have far more moons than planets.......

Nierrh Class requires a second resource that is NOT available in the mod, and is way way to powerful (took out Nor class star base in 3 hits)

It has maxHealth = 4895 ...

Physics are fine. You might want to add new Physics setting to game so that you can select the Physics you want. That way people who hate don't need to use it.

- torpedoes firing in all directions(isn't a bug)

Yes ... their is. On fresh install of A2 + 1.1 patch + art war in romulan small yard their ship by that name with really screwed up build button. Ship totally sucks, but yes thier is.

that's messed up, in that slot is the Seht class, I'm telling you the Nierrh class is not in my download because I never liked the design.

So what flying frick man, you telling me i have non existing ship. What the frick is it a ghost? Im Sware i haven't touch your mod man and this stupid ship is in it. what the *sh*fu*ck is going on :Puzzled:

Should i try another reinstall? Did i just get messed up version of your mod or something?

I have absolutely no idea, it would have to be installed after my mod to overwrite my files, just messed up, the reaon it's so powerful is because it uses the old A2 balancing.

please try a reinstall from disk, if not let me know and I'll look into it further, see if I can find the phantom mod.

I got the errors that the others said but I thought I'd share some comments, the cardassian yards - well the third one - is just a tad too small. The Jem Hadar dreadnaughts engines are built through the shipyard sides, same with the Cardassian dreadnaught. From playing the Romulans, their turrets are somewhat too small and I'm yet to get further with them since my last game, so I'm unsure of ship building issues. Oh and I don't have that phantom ship in the Romulan primary shipyard.

To amoebia, when choosing a map pick the ones that have AOW in the name. I believe there are only two, both 8 player ones. In the mod readme, Achilles did say that he will make more maps when the mod if complete and add them to the release.

Which by the way good luck and it's most impressive mod, looking forward to the Federation and Borg parts.

map making is actually not something I am much good at, I was hoping someone would send in any they have altered to the mod.

Easy mode will be made... easier.

i think the ai is great

my only quirrel is with crashes to desktop, they happen quite often.

to the mod op.
what is the prefered settings* for skirmish

i usually play like this

player: dom
ai: rom

-shroud off
-infinite money
- fixed places
- default map

map height: lowest setting
ship movement: slower physics (ure one causes ships to go nuts)


and then i get ready to click like mad for 2-3hrs :smokin:

yeah they are pretty much right except for the infinite money, but that's up to you ;)

I really wish A2 made an error log, A1 did it fine.

ok i did complete uninstall. Then complete reinstall and the phantom ship has disappeared. I'm at complete lost at what happened. Far as i can figure maybe the registry some how had something to do with it. To be honest i dont no. I had bivr installed long time ago, but even with direct install over your mod their wouldn't be any of your mod really left except mabey weapon textures. I'm stumped.

Well, I don't know if anyone else has expereinced this, but is the Cardassian's 'Bakrus Clas' ship HPs are abit messed up? It shows(to me) that all the weapons and etc. are firing from the DEAD-MIDDLE of the sod/mod. Has anyone else got this too when they play this ship in their game?

I've re-installed the game and then the 1.1 patch version and it seems that the mod CAN'T work with this patch!I've got tons of crashes at the very beginning!And if you don't install the patch you can't choose slower physics and therefore you can't make the ships stop circling out of control

Dontai you are correct, best to just desctivate the special weapon entirely on that one, strange as it was working.

Firewarrior the mod was made on patch 1.1, the physics will be set for the fix patch, hoping for a next week release for that.

and the following fixes...

standardised physics (with the option to re-install the current ones)
fix for rcruise2a (removed special)

cardassian and romulan super facilities can be built

romulan shockwave turret is weakened and less shielded

cardassian 3rd yard increased in size

Well, I'm embarassed to say I'm probably the last person in the community to try Art of War. In fact I haven't played any armada game for ages. Today I had the urge, and now I'm regretting it.

My first thought was to get Flops 2 back, only to discover it doesn't work on my new Vista machine. So after unistalling that, and Armada2, emptying my Activision folder, I figured it was time I got playing AOW.

So I figured I'd try each instalment one at a time. I started with a clean armada instal, plus the 1.1 patch. Installed part one of AOW fine, only to get a crash to desktop when I select the multiplayer menu. Figuring I'd messed something up, I uninstalled everything again. Done a new clean install as normal, but I still got the crash.

Having experienced similar crashes when adding new races manually in the past (not that I was doing that this time), I decided to edit my races odf to remove all the non-working races, leaving just the dom and roms and ferengi, which solved the problem.

I can now access the menu and start a game no problem, however nothing is buildable. I've checked the techtrees, the ship and station odfs (which are all present and correct), and tried every tech level but nothing is available to build....which kinda threw me, as I cant see how that could happen.

So I decided to instal part 2 over the top to see what happened. Well again, the multiplayer menu crashes me to desktop again. (obviously due to the races odf being put back to normal.) I'm baffled.

Next I tried installing part 3 over the top, which fixes my crash, and I can now enter the multiplayer menu fine. I can start a game fine, but again nothing is buildable:rolleyes: (in fact the first 2 times I tried this, I started a game as the feds, only to have half the stock stations available to build!!!???(which sounds similar to Dontai's mysterious ship appearing in the above posts)

I've now tried all of the stages 3 times (from clean instal, right through to part3), and each time I get the same errors.

Obviously this seems to be unique to me, as the mods have been out for some time, with no-one else having this trouble.

Would anyone have any ideas? Frankly I'm stumped, and after 6 years or so of modding this game, that dont happen often. Could Flops somehow have screwed around with my system somehow, before I started installing AOW?
(Although I've uninstalled everything several times over)

This was gonna be a nice relaxing day playing mods today.....think I'll go back to the playstation instead:(

Anyone with thoughts or suggestions, please chip in.

super uninstall :P remove the game normally, delete all files and folders containing the game then remove all references to armada from the registry. I have only had to do that once ;)

Well, after a few hours kip, I woke up with the same thoughts. When installing Flops, it made some unusual registry changes, as Spybot flagged up a warning that registry was being changed.

I'd assumed it was ok, as I got the same warning when I uninstalled it. Obviously not!

Looks like I gotta trawl through my registry, something I've not done in ages. And something I've not done in Vista. This could be....er...fun:(
That'll teach me for putting Flops first before AOW.

Apologies for double posts.
Well I've searched (and manually trawled) through my registry, removed every reference to the game, and any mods I've used (found loads more Flops stuff, and some Tactical Assault stuff as well). Done a new clean install, but same problems.

Tried again with the registry. Removed everything I could possibly think of, that I knew wouldn't cause a system crash. Re-installed again, and same problem. I give up. Looks like Armada2 is going back in the cupboard, before I launch it out the top floor window (closely followed by my PC):bawl:

Is it possible that your A2 disk is corrupt somehow, and that it isn't installing everything how it should? It may be that it isn't actually installing various files. Does it work without AoW?

Nooooo, dont say such things. It cant be corrupt, I wont hear of it:Puzzled:. (although I was tempted to smash it into pieces myself this morning.)

Actually I checked a couple of times while doing my 8 or 9 fresh instals, and the stock game appeared to be fine.

What I need to do is try a few other mods like BIVR that I know have worked flawlessly in the past.

I'm curious to know if its the patch project playing havoc. I'm sure Yacuzza used it for Tactical assault, there also appears to be bits of it in the old flops2 I was trying. (as I said, I found registry keys for both hidden on my system)

What would be helpful would be if Achillies could tell me if he used it for parts 1 and 2 of AOW. I know he was using it by the time he got to part 3.

Ok, so I just download this mod and from what I have been able to play it is one kick ass mod. But I am having some problems with some things. I am very new to modding and i am really not that good at it at all. But i read this thread and saw that other ppl were having some of the same trouble i am having. Here is my problems;

Patch-1: Game crashes right when it starts to load, can't really get it to play, i only have been able to play it 1 time.

Patch-2: Most everything works the only problem i have i that it crashes like 10 min into the game (its usually after the ship science station completes its first pod) I don't know why it does this???

Patch-3: The Dominion Race doesn't have anything that can be built. and the Feds, Borg, Rom, Klingon, and Mith are either missing things (I.E. Ships, Stations, Pods, Etc.) or are the same as the Dominion. However the A.I. can build them.

So is it something that i am doing wron or does anyone know? Like i said i am very new to mods so i am not that experenced. However i have added some other mods that worked (e.g. Dominion Ultimate, Fed. Mod, Rom. Mod, Borg Mod(i think) and the Klingon Mod) and they all worked. I only had 3 of the ships in the Dominion mod that for some reason said that they had special weapons but i could never get them to work and i could never figure out why either. Also is there anyone out there that will help me with modding and teach me kinda how to mod?

it sounds to me you aren't using the right tech file, when setting up your game open your advanced settings and make sure you are using standard tech.

As for modding, go to the main site and download the BBOM, if it aint in there... well then ask :P

I'm guessing you are using Windows Vista?

The problems seem similar to what I had, so I'm guessing you need to look into the way Vista uses permissions for certain files. It took me some time trawling through the different file options and permission settings.

In my case I was logged on as an administartor, had done the neccessary installations, everything appeared fine. Even looking in the techtree files as Achilles suggests, shedded no light, as all files were present and correct. But when running the game, it somehow appeared to still be using the stock techtrees.

Basically what I found was that windows had let me make the neccessary changes and instal the new files. However, because I did not have the appropriate permissions ticked under the windows file options, it ignored the changes I had made and continued using the original files.

It really confused me for some time. Why windows didn't just tell me at the beggining that the permissions were wrong is beyond me. Vista is a strange system at times.

Having said all that, if you are not using Vista, chances are you have done something wrong yourself. Start again from scratch with a fresh instal of the game and patch.

Does that make sense? Sorry I've been up working all night.:sleep:

Yes, i am using Vista. Sorry i forgot to put that in my first post. I went back and use the standard tech option but it still crashed when the first pod was built on the ship science station. Also, should i leave everything in the advanced settings alone, and not change anything? 'Cause i do turn the fer off most of the time... And sometimes turn on unlimited moons... Should i download part 3 and try the same thing with that?:confused:

you should leave the moons alone, it wont really matter cause I use planets for moons, better for AI positioning. I'd also install part 3, it includes the FO patch which is apparently good for Vista users.
