Does the blank space appear at all (spot where button should be?). Also did you add the Death Star to your techtree yet? If not opem tech1.tt with notepad, and anywhere add the line:
dstar.odf 0
If you didn't add it to the techtree this should be the last step.
Ok, I got it into the game. I added it to the techtree and installed it in the correct construction ship. However, alot of work for naught. The Deathstar construction has no textures and when it completes, it crashes the game.
Ok, new plan. There is a mod called Star Wars Fleet Command, I think it comes with a Death Star, it's just not added to a construction ship. just so you know, Fleet Command is made to mod the demo, so if you don't want to lose your current install, or have the space to install the demo then you should try that.
Wow, I forgot completely about the fact the odf may mave waepons you don't have... Try what Majest said first that may fix the problem. Also I said that Fleet Command may come with a Death Star, I know it isn't "installed" though, that would have to be done yourself. My point was though that it may/should be as simple as adding it to the construction ship.
Edit:
Ok, I reinstalled Star Wars: Fleet Command and the update. I installed the construction button for the Deathstar and added it to the tech1.tt file. Incidentally, I had to put it in iconst2.odf. I had to change the dstar.odf from station to craft and I was all good to go. However, now the construction ship can't build it because it is way to big and it can't go out of the bounds to build it. Now what do I do?

Reason: Merged
You can shrink the Deathstar by using the scaleSOD=X.X command in the dstar.odf, if there already is a line for scaleSOD, then try halving that number, it there is no scaleSOD line, add it at the bottom of the odf like so..
scaleSOD = 0.5
that should help, if it still is too big, try 1/4 size...
