New Music

I Play Armada 2 like no other rts. i love everything everyone does with the game and try to incorporate every new thing i can. but then a few weeks ago i was playing conquest. another cool rts that is just as easily replayable as armada 2. but something about it made it even more fun. the music!!! it was just like starship troopers. who knows... maybe the people who made the game loved that movie( in know i did) but anyway i went back to armada 2 and as cool as it was i didn't quite feel like it was "a good day to die". i actually just felt like it was time to build a base and sit there with my finger in my nose.

now to the point. i have massive amounts of spare music files on my 200 gig hard drive. even some songs from insurrection. i need advice, motivation, and/or technical knowledge on how i can replace some of the "Pretty little life forms, Where are you" music files with some of the "assimilate this you one armed walking dentist tools" music.

and as for the third part of this :the replying.
hope you like the idea and hope somebody comes up with an answer so i don't blow up "my precious":fistpunch:

an interesting solution

Well i see not many people are interested in spicing up the sounds to armada. or maybe you where all on vacation. anyway i came up with an interesting if not lame solution to my problem. i got a collection of different star trek music and i am now in the process of rearanging and splicing the sound files together so that i can have a more varied series of "fire the torpedos!" theme songs. i dunno how exactly you guys think of modding but personally if i take one step up a flight of stairs i don't stand there and admire my shoe color. i go up the flight of stairs.(it's a generalized comment yes but don't think my admitting it makes you exempt.)any way this is sort of my official "oh... i figured it out" message.but just incase any of you care i would like to here any ideas you have on th subject.

and uh thanks again to like the 2 people that looked at this post.

Good Idea

I think that putting in new music to a2 is a great idea, and i am looking for a music modder for my mod Rogue Borg and if you want you could have this position. To find out mor about the mod check the rogue borg post.

iv been thinking about this for some time, but it is somewhat difficult. iv replaced every bit of the quickbattle music in BC, one by one to my own liking, but in A2 there are some files i cant think of anything to do with. just what are we going to do for the rommulons, species 8472, and the like? i just cant think of any music i have that would fit them, and be some nice "kill everything that moves" type music at the same time. any suggestions?

a few suggetions i thought of for the romulans is a combo of the stuff from nemesis and insurrection. a perticular song from insurection called Thr Riker Maneuver seems to fit well enough for either the romulans or just barely for the cardassians or klingons.
however as far as justchanging one song for each race goes, i've decided to extend the trakcs to include multiple songs for each race.
i'm oing about doing this by taking what files i feel are sufficent then transfering them to wav format, and from there i am going to splice the sound files to my liking to create longer trakcs for the game. I mean i'd hate to replay a song to death when i like it so i'm going to be putting a few different songs into one big track .i think that will do what i want. anyway as far as a job goes thanks but i didn't get a reply to the message i sent you in time so i'm out. but thanks for the offer anyway. any other opinions, questions(like i know what i'm doing), or possible new sounds.... i'll check this post every now and then so please "express yourself":smokin:

The thing to do

Okay toddy... you may only be one person but thats enough for me.
anyway the process ofcourse involves reformatting most of the music files you'll probably want to use. so look somewhere on the net for some kind of "Blah to wav" converter.most likely an mp3 to wav. just as long as it ends up a wav file. now as to the specs for those wav. files. and this is important otherwise the music player that seems to come with armada 2 won't play the file (it's because the music player is rather lowquality so that it can run the player and the game easily on lots of machines. rather a bumer for a high-end systems;)
The files need to be around 22.0kHz and 16bit.like i said important not to go above these qualities for the armada 2 player is low end.
Also very important is that it seems to only be able to read files that are mono. that means not stereo.now these file specs are only what i've descovered so if you you questions try to keep them away from the area of how do i recode the armada player. that would be a little out of my league.another thing is the length of the files that were putting into this. now large files are not impossible to place into the system it just takes the player an extra seconed or two to load a larger file so give it time. once again these tests are being performed on a high end system so if you've waited more then a minute or so then either something is wrong with the file or your computer sucks enough so that this idea is a bad one for you.now this little wait period only seems to apply to mission start up, not the loading screen but right after the loading screen.when you can first see your ships.Lets see.... ok lets go a little more into depth about how we make those files.ok first of all not all converters will give you options on how you want to reconvert a file. sometimes they just do it in one way for anyfile. it would work if it did it in the right way but thats a little hard to try and deal with so lets try and look for one that gives you options lik setting the mono not stereo and etc. like the 22.0kHz instead of 44.1khz. now if your not sure if your files are turning out correctly then a good way to check on this would be to get a program like winamp and look at the file options of your finished files. it whould give you the info you need so that you can either adjust the options when you recode the file or give you the inclination to get a better recoder/converter/whatever you find that does th job.anyway i think i got it all so if i left anything out then post again and i should be able to explain. oh and as for replacing the file with your new one try to follow the rules with normal ship modding. you know replace the name of the file for your new one to the name of the corresponding file your replacing. and also keep a backup of the original file incase you need it for anything.

mp3 to wav converter

If you're looking for a common MP3 to WAV converter, just use the old version of Winamp. Yep, Winamp 2 has a file-writing output capability, unlike Winamp 3. Go to www.winamp.com to download it for free.
Put all the files you want to convert in the playlist. Then, click the upper-leftmost button. Go to Options, then Preferences. Click on Output under the Plugins section. There should be a thing on the right that ends with "out_disk.dll". Double click that, set the directory to write to and the quality of WAV file you want to write (I always pick the highest quality, but it eats up a lot of space, so use your own judgement).
Click OK, then play the files through once (make sure you don't have the repeat on). The files won't play through the speakers, and they'll run real fast. That's normal for writing to disk. Then go to the directory you specified earlier, and there they are.
Make sure that if you want to actually listen to music again that you change the output back to the preference you had before (changes depending on your sound system).
