Construction Ships and Warp?

Is it possible to get a construction ship to travel at warp short of disabling its engines and towing it around at warp speed with an Iwo Jima Class ship?

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

of course, add this to the odf of the con ship
Code:

combatSpeed = 20
impulseSpeed = 50
warpSpeed = 100

that should do it

I'm using the first one, but the second is new, I may check it out too:

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

those ships use the same code.

Thanks - wasn't expecting a reply this quickly.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

That is in the sconstphys.odf in the odf/other folder. I set it to
combatSpeed = 25
impulseSpeed = 50
warpSpeed = 200
and all construction ships, freighters and cargo ship at least move some to speed up the game now.

well its diff for everyone, i hate the construction ships being able to warp, i like to send escorts with them, and make it more fun, But now that you know how, you wil be able to change it to whatever you want, and or what ever fits you better.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

Ah. I wondered why it didn't work once I added that to fconst.odf.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

I experimented with speed and found 200 good for me. Certainly it's less than half full warp for most combat ships so it doesn't seem too fast. We've seen warp capable cargo vessels in ST so I say why not?

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

I popped 200 in as well, the construction ship's got warp now, so I'm pleased. Thanks to everyone who answered my plea for help!

I think I forgot to give the cargo ships warp... oh wait, I did forget, well, now I've given myself something to do :)

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

I need a brain check: I've already modded the cargo ships!

Well, I know people are entitled to memory lapses, but I think I've had 1 too many....

Good work wasnt that hard now does it ;)

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

also changing this line

physicsFile = "sconstphys.odf"

to a diffrent physics file will do it also the physics files are in the odf other folder

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

no, it was hard, I had to type it myself ;)

Just being sarcastic there - regardless, the construction ship toddles along at a stately... i dunno... probably Warp 5!

Well, I suppose if you really wanted overkill, you could have Transwarp drive....

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

I've run cloaked constructio ships since A1. They are great. Think about doing that. I've done transwarp const ships but got tired of it some.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

i used to have a bunch of things added to the construction ship. Including cloak corbomite refracter chain reaction pulsar and a few other things. But i never could get the repair beam to work.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

The Fed repair team from the Nebula is made for a repair ship really. Try that it's nice. Repair ships are cheap so I keep them fairly simple without any weapons. I think there's a class label different with the construction ship trying to use the repair command.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

Here's a tip, too: don't give the repair ships any weapons. I don't know WHY this happens, but the repair ship will fire phasers then repair the damage... a perfect example of "shoot first, ask questions later", but the only trouble is the ship does tend to get destroyed.

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

Hmm? That's one of these anomolies of Armada. Ever go into mapedit to move a station or ship for some reason and return to the game to see friendly ships firing on the thing you moved?

lostmyunimatrix June 15th, 2004 03:02 AM

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

No, sounds odd though! I especially hate the anomaly where you send a fleet through a wormhole, some make it through but the others stand there in typical "duh..... which one impulse controls (despite being CLEARLY marked)?"

I think that the captains of the game's starships are probably going to press the wrong button, blow their ship up, and reflect: Well, now I know what that button does....

And on a completely unrelated note: my face is itchy - damn electric razor.....

Re: Construction Ships and Warp?

... or the odd map where I haven't been able to use warp for no apparent reason, it's enabled and everything..... I mean the conversation would be something like:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
Get us out of here, Data! Maximum warp!
Systems groan ominously as Enterprise E goes to warp
Enterprise E drops from warp a few seconds later, running lights completely out
Sir?
Yes, Mr Data?
I believe the correct human phrase would be "Oh dear".
A little more "colourful" than that.
You mean more like "Why must you do this at inopportune times, you stinking hulk of duranium! You know, it's a good thing we don't pay good money to build you! You piece of (convenient bleep), I've got a mind to kick you straight in the warp core, you (series of convenient bleeps)!"
Perfect, Data. Just perfect.
