To be honest, though, the real reason they changed her name is unknown. I heard that it was a copyright thing, or that the original voice of Derpy didn't want to keep the name as she had a disabled son. Either way, the SJW bitching didn't end up getting changed, but it pissed off a ton of MLP fans to the point where the most vocal protestor of Derpy's name was showered in hate mail and death threats after the retcon.
