It's not a flame Idol if your talking to me...It's just comparing that comment to something the likes of a nazi regime...conform or die...its a joke.

Idolater March 13th, 2001 11:22 AM

well, I think some may not interpretate that as a joke...I for one, think that it wasn't funny...

I don't care if I have to go straight to DocX at this point.

DaBoogieman March 13th, 2001 11:33 AM

Well I was trying to make a point...short and simple...I hate long posts. The fact of the matter is that in any type of discussion arguments are bound to occur.

Take this one for example I don't agree with SomeGirl's banning everyone that flames and I post a short comment intended to make people think for themselves which has now been interpreted by you as a flame.

So in effect everyone that disagrees at some point or another is going to be banned because essentially disagreeing/arguing is apparently considered flaming.

This is suppose to be a discussion forum. A discussion involves two or more sides be they in agreement or not but once they are no longer in agreement that discussion becomes an argument.

Essentially what will happen is folks will be afraid to post their opinions (The equivalent of the jewish hiding in their basements during that era to avoid the germans hence the short comment to try and make folks think rather than bring the whole discussion out in the open...it was an analogy of the situation)

Granted that is a much worse scenario but it is the same principle...folks will be afraid to post for fear of being banned and the board will consist of all posts with no replies. It's just silly to think you can have all these discussions without ever getting into an argument.

Very poor taste DBM. That remark could offend a lot of people.

DaBoogieman March 13th, 2001 11:38 AM

I dont see why...folks are taught this stuff in school...yet its in poor taste to use it to make an analogy of the situation at hand?

I am not condoning it I am stating that it is just plain wrong...why is that offensive?

Well, ok I understand. I try to avoid analogies in discussions...[check my Guideline For Discussions somewhere http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif]

[But what you have posted wasn't only the case in Germany WW2, but also later on in the communist DDR; Nischengesellschaft....but that is a another discussion.]

SomeGirl March 13th, 2001 11:52 AM

Here's rule #6 that applies to DBM only:
Don't reply to any of my posts, thanks http://www.veforums.com/smile.gif

DaBoogieman March 13th, 2001 11:53 AM

You see...what better analogy could I have presented?

MadcapMac March 13th, 2001 11:53 AM

Flamewar looming...
