Mine always warns me by having the CPU go crazy, close all programs, open up all my background applications. Almost like it's asking, "There. Do I have to go all the way and tell you to shut down those progarms? Would you like some biscuits with that? Get going, you lazy ass". Dropping it into standby and out again fixes that though.
