D&D = Dungeons and Dragons (1st edition D&D )
AD&D = Advanced Dungeons and Dragons (2nd edition D&D)
D&D 3rd edition = Dungeons and Dragons (3rd edition D&D)

And then you have D&D v3.5 which is an update for D&D 3rd ed.
