Random BF2 questions

I don't think this is important enough to put in the BF forums... but anyway, I've convinced my parents to give me money for BF2. I want to play with some friends who don't have the SF expansion, so here are a few questions...

Can I install the expansion, but still play without it?

Is the expansion even worth getting?

To clarify the first question, I had a game before with an expansion. In my Start menu, I had shortcuts to play the original game, or the game with the expansion. Is BF2 the same way?

Thanks for any help.

I can answer a few of those, from standard game knowledge. If you install the expansion, you can certainly play without it. And if you choose so during installation, then yes; in your start menu you can have both shortcuts, seeing at you'll install the game and the expansion seperately.

Yeah, that's what I thought, just wanted to make sure.

the expansion is pretty cool. you get ziplines (sniper) and grappling hooks [assault and mabye antitank (not sure)]. the extra weapons seem really accurate, esp. spec ops for me. there are new vehicles, new maps (some specifically made for nightvision). if you ever get bored of vanilla bf2, it's pretty fun.

And if your Parents are paying, go for the expansion. ;)

You mean expansions, right?

Remember, we have our own ranked server. The more, the merrier ;) .

Be careful, though, because the community will be hostile difficultywise to start out (at least it was for me). Learning how to fly is like learning how to build a computer or an internal combustion engine (both without prior knowledge). I'm just getting the hang of it myself. I'd suggest finding an empty server with a 32 or 64 player map running like ours [pitch] like ours[/pitch] and practicing how to fly. The game has help pop-ups and a voice which will help a lot, and it doesn't stay forever so it won't get on your nerves.

If you want, we'll meet up on MSN and play a few rounds. I need to get to Lance Corporal anyway :)

I couldn't say. I don't have it. :)

There's one expansion (Special Forces) and 2 Booster Packs (Armored Fury and Euro Force). The Booster Packs are really small expansions.
