Re: 'w'

In the Spanish Alphabet, W is Double V.

V = "ve"
W = "double ve" = Double V.

Ahh, the power of 2. 2 U's (or V's) are better than 1.

Honestly, maybe double U looks like double V because a true double U looks like a pair of boobs, and the English wouldn't want people laughing at that everytime they write something. (That would make some really funny stories, though).

UU

See for yourself. (If this is considered pornographic, please delete as I don't want to violate any of the forum guidelines by accident).

No, I was referring to the spanish alphabet. I forgot to mention, though, that all of the vowels are short in pronounciation.

So really, V = va (with a long a). But in spanish, it would be V = ve (with a short e).

Here is the spanish alphabet (remember, all vowels are short):

a - ah
b - be
c - ce
ch - che
e - e (pronounced like the long a in english).
f - efe
g - he
h - hache (or ache. H's are always silent in spanish. Except for in front of a c, it really doesn't need to be in the alphabet).
i - i (pronounced like a long e, but the vowel itself is short when in words)
j - je (or hay in english)
k - k
l - ele

ll - elle (or aya, with all of the a's long).
m - eme
n - ene

ñ - eñe (in english, enyay).
o - oh
p - pe
q - cu (coo, with oo as in cool)
r - ere
rr - erre (rr is the rolled r, which I have a ton of trouble pronouncing)
s - ese
t - te
u -
oo
v - ve
w - double ve
x - equis
y - i griega
z - ze

(note: Red letters denote letters that used to be in the Spanish Alphabet, but were taken out a few years ago).

I've been ranting about the letter "W" since fourth grade and no one took me seriously. Glad to see people here are a bit more understanding. :p
