During the American Civil War, Andersonville was a Confederate prison camp in Georgia. Over forty thousand Union soldiers were held there. Almost 13,000 of them died. Living conditions were harsh, there was little food and nutrients, and the water was not safe to drink. Many prisoners caught diseases such as scurvy.

Problem: If I add flaps and change their lengths on a paper airplane, how will that affect the distance the paper airplane flies?

IV and Units: Length of flaps in centimeters.

DV and Units: Distance the airplane flies in centimeters.

Hypothesis: If I adjust the paper airplane’s flaps, then it will fly less distance because it will have less wingspan.

Procedure:

Materials:
-printer paper
-pencil
-ruler
-yardstick
-prior experience in paper airplane design

Control: Experiment without flaps.

Constants:
-Brand of paper.
-Size of paper
-Airplane design.
-Force used to throw.
-Height thrown from.

Steps:

1. Make the airplane.

2. Measure and add flaps.

3. Throw the airplane.

4. Measure distance from point it was thrown from to the back of the plane.

5. Record data and get an average.

I strap my sword onto my belt, and Ferkik’don hefts his massive axe. Hadhod steps in front of us both, uttering a simple spell to clear the foliage in our path away. Upon reaching the path, he turns in the direction the Shadows were headed.
“Hold up! Shouldn’t we be moving away from them?” Ferkik’don inquires.
“We must stop them from reaching their destination. Ungard’s militia will not be able to defend itself if we don’t interfere.”
“Good idea,” I announce, following Hadhod down the hoof-beaten road.
Ferkik’don grumbles something inaudible, and then follows after Hadhod and me. After some time of walking, Hadhod halts and holds up his hand. “Wait. Hear that?”
I listen for a moment, and then I recognize the sound. Hooves. “Run!” I shout, “They’re coming back!”
As abruptly as it began, the sound stops. The three of us listen intently, but there is not a sound in the whole forest. Even the birds have stopped singing.
