Google = Clever Bastards.
The whole beta thing is a PR stunt and bandwith conserving thing. Think about it. allocating a gig of space to each user. The entire beta thing capped the sign up prosess, so everyone didnt all hop on at once and pwn the servers. Look how publciced it was. Not unless google have a Mail Server with several hundred million gigs of space to share out, it would have been game over as soon as it begun. The invite system keeps it under control. they've got it going smoothly they give more and more invitations out and so now its practicly open. But keeping it with invites makes it less likely for people to register multipul and one off accounts. Its a google scam, much like most things 'google' these days. |
