Payback is officially dead (my opinion)... read on I heard alot of bad opinions about payback. Everyone is hoping that the game can be modded to be a pwnz0r game again and monk (from OSP) said to bring back the OSP in payback like he did in sof2.... But now i read this in the other forums, this is a statement from monk: ''I withdraw my OSP development for this game. After hearing from others (and seeing for myself) how, bad, the engine is, I won't mod it, nor will anyone I know mod it. I have no idea if the game will be modable at all. Sorry, but I wish raven would've stuck with development. -M'' Source: Soldier of Fortune: Payback Community So the game is officially dead after 2 days.... :| Can the game be saved by modding and patching? I hope really hope so.... |
Every one is quick to point out the bad parts of the game and from reading what has been said about it then maybe it is dead or maybe people are just to quick to write it off. There is a patch in development and there are no tools released for it yet so no one has any idea about what is to come. Monks choice to not develop osp for it is his choice. But he is making that choice without seeing the patch or any tools. Alot have made a big thing about no cd key so you can't ban people. Hmmm ET has no cd key and that supports punkbusters and people can easily be banned in that. So again wait and see. |
Agreed with Goody on this one. Ok, a lot of bad reviews.. But in my opinion, CoD4 sucks big time, but that has only good reviews so.. I'll wait till I tried the game myself, and if tools will be released, I'll probably do some mapping. |
It's funny to see that a lot of people was waiting for a sof2 remake, with the "jumpcombo" which is a bug i think, this is a new game done by different people it may lack some features an it may have some bugs, well welcome to the gaming world boys. I made a request for the game to a store it may take up to 1 month to arrive, and I will enjoy it no matter how much you hate it. :D |

And OFFICIALLY dead? Who has decided that? |
Just my opinion here: No cdkey : ok while not a big issue, an issue none the less No Punkbuster : this can be PURCHASED, but as we have seen, they wouldn't/didn't even spend the money to do the research on the game they were making, while using the name of the game they were replacing. No lean: Meh, i can take this or leave it. But it was a part of sof2 that people used to death ...;) No prone: They could have been just a little innovative. Conclusion: They didn't do any research. They came up with the cheapest game concept, and used a " dead" game title ( in their eyes) to sell it to a crowd of people who would buy it. What is the sense of Buying it when you can get it anywhere ? Cause it is the right thing to do. What is the sense of supporting those that didn't support it's customer base? There is none. You can either NOT buy the game because it isn't sof2 remade. Or you can buy the game and play it for what it is. A watered down shooter. My real opinion ? BLack hawk down has more playability than this. Sof: Payback should have been named, SOF: Soldout. |

the game doesnt feel ready, it hasnt even got a smooth aim.; The menu suck, every thing about the game sucks Oh yea you know whats funny, when you look at the readme youll notice that its not a readme of sof payback but its the same ready of ''the history channel: civil war'' , thats another game of activision... ''Overclocking issues: Overclocking a video card's clock and/or bus speed beyond the manufacturer specifications can cause The History Channel: Civil War to frequently freeze or crash. We recommend not to use CPU or video card overclocking.'' They rushed the release of the game that they forgot to change the readme file... how dumb can you be? so i suggest you play the game and then tell me if the game is dead or not... |

Back to the topic, I believe that Activision forced Cauldon to finish off the game on a specific date. Cauldon, which was developing the game for the Playstation 3, did not have the time to add the specific features needed for a PC game, and just ported it, as well as not doing a proper testing as it seems. This can be also seen from the readme my dear friend bulletproof posted. I am looking forward to the patch, as I trust Cauldon. They have developed a beautiful engine, so I highly doubt that they cannot add simple things like lean, colored names, chatting in MP and video options. So yes, I am confident!:nodding: |
