Can someone tell me where I can get a map maker for sof2 mp? I am very interested in making maps but I can't find a program to make them.

there is already a STICKY by DkViper2K8 on mapping start questions. But i think we need make clear about the confusion between SDK and GTK.

GtkRadient is W/out doubt the best maping program. Who is still using SDK and why... i really dont know :clueless:

hi, a good program to use for mapping is easygen. I just learned how to use it along with gtk radiant, good for large terrain and building land.

Re: map maker

are there any map makers out therethat don't require a college education to use?

quallity isn't important right now I.m just starting out, I want something that is fairly simple to use when you have never used one before.

Life is not easy :vikki: . Life simulation is a big deal: that canT be easy at all.
But W/ some weeks of close training on Radiant u 'll be able to make some little cool newbie map. We need this kind of personal satisfaction to go ahead, learning step by step, day by day, how to build a quality map.

Ps.:Dont make my error: i 'm a newbie mapper too, and i 'm working since july 2003 on a big complex detailed map: a neverending job :kerian:

Yeah, start small... learn the basics first :woot:

Re: map maker

ok where do i learn the basics, is there a tutorial for it somewhere, besides the help file that is even harder to understand the program?

Re: map maker

take a look of 'my 1st & 2nd room' videos at modsonline:

http://www.gdconnect.com/modules.php...g&file=preface

U 'll find there also a lot of handy tutorials (dont worry about the fact that this tuts seems to be SDK specific: they r usefull 4 GTK too). And follow the Marko's and LetHal's starting suggestions:

http://mapdesign.ravencommunity.net/

If u find problems, errors and the (blody) like [u 'll find it: thats sure], people here 'll be glad to help u.
Let start :naughty:

Re: map maker

It can take some time, but if u really wanna map, dont give up. Stick with it.

When i first used radiant, i was like "euck!!" I had used unrealEd b4 and got really used to the way that worked. Radiant just seemed over complicated and confusing.

On several times i picked up radiant, hoping to do something with it, but always getting stuck at the same hurdles with its usabilty.

Eventually, i had some time on my hands and decided, once and for all, i was gonna sit down and make something with it. I went through a load of tutorials.

The more i used it, the easier it became to use and make stuff with, and you do find urself getting well rewarded for the amount of work you put in.

Like most things in life, persistance is the key ;)

:uhm: Pk3 is tha last thing u need by now: it is used for sending maps to the community in the rigth format. Then, u need, first of all, to get a map builded, compiled, optimized etc.
Any way, check this PK3 thread at mapping forum (i realize now that this is the wrong forum):

Re: map maker

doesn't it have to be in pk3 format to play it in the game?

Re: map maker

nope, the bsp can be in sof2/base/maps and then you can type /devmap mapname in console to run it
