Hi.
I am not sure of all the differences, but I would stick with a 3COM unit.
You can get one off www.newegg.com.
Here is the one I got for $31.00

You hook cable up via the ethernet card and the cable modem.

Yes, some computers come with built in ethernet cards.

Linksys makes a Eithernet card too. I myself have my cable connection through USB, but that is still slower than the Eithernet card.

Use USB2.0 ports...you may have more luck with the speed that way

any network is only as fast as its slowest component so get something that does the job and some extra!!!

A 10MBit/s card should be fine for up to a 1mbit line without lag etc and still allowing for any LAN traffic that you may have..

Are you going to be using a Hub/switch or a router in your solution...

LinkSYS is awsome and cheap, keep in mind that expensive is not always the best.

hi and thanks for the extra suggestions
actually yes i was thinking about going with a hub to share the interenet it another computer..wireless for the other...wired for mine. however, the other computer is quite old and i screwed up the installation of the wireless card ..nowit wont even connect to the interent with its modem :(. im going to try to reinstall today
thanks again!
