Default AMD and DDR

After having lots of problems with this game, I tried to reinstal my OS, try lots of different settings, and none of it has helped. Then I saw all these calls for help and spoke to a lot of people. Now I have found that ........... SoF 2 does not like AMD athlon processors and DDR RAM. Everyone who has trouble has an AMD and DDR, people with pentiums and SDD or RDR RAM are ok. This really sucks

sorry champ. AMD and DDR work fine. Your problem is something else.
Drivers I'd say. Go to www.nvidia.com.

[running AthlonXP 1600, 256mb DDR Ram here...works like a dream]

Yeah, sorry Dave but I suspect AMD + DDR isn't your problem as mine works ok (see machine specs below) I have the occasional bug like seeing body parts through walls and getting stuck in the prone position but I think this is the game coding not my machine specifically. What exactly is happening on your system, maybe I can replicate it on mine and find a solution.
I work as an ICT Tech for a large inner city College in the North of UK and have got quite used to testing systems for "odd" problems. If your machine specs are "close" to mine we may be able to hit mine with your settings and see if it breaks. What display settings etc do you use?

AMD XP1600+ Palomino on ECS K7S5A
350 PSU with 22a on 3.3v rail*
512 mb DDR
GF3 128mb
Win XP
Cable Modem with 1mb connection
Home LAN on Linksys BEFSR41
with 3 PC's and connection for Laptop

(*and still getting that damn infinite loop error occasionally..grr)

At the moment Im blaming my OS, long story. I also have the latest dirvers. But I found that a lot of people who have a problem has AMD and DDR.

I have Athlon 1700+ on Aopen AK74 Pro
256 DDR RAM
GeForce 2 Ti 64 MB DDR
Win XP Home (used to use Win 2k Pro)

Im getting occasional slow downs for a second in MP(cheap NIC, need to replace it)

Sometimes the machine restarts without warning , OS problem, need to fix it, cant be bothered. And I sometimes crash to the desktop without warining leaving behind the gamma settings from the game, which sounds like a memory problem, but I think that i enough.

But other people cant even play the game or it keeps crashing for them.

Still the problems Dave?

Damn, can't help you anymore. The things I changed you already know of.

My spec's

ASUS a7V333
AMD XP1900
512 samsung PC2700 333Hz DDR SDRAM
Nvidia GF3 128MB
Creative Audigy 5.1 player

The weird thing is I had the same problems before to but fix them by adjusting some settings.

Advanced video settings:
Image format set to DXT1 compressed
Alfa image format set to DX5 compressed

OpenGL
Generic set to yes
" " Specific set to yes

Advanced scalability settings:
CPU scalability
Low end machine set to fals

That's about it.

Things to do on a fresh OS install w/ an AMD chip:

Download the amd agp patch
http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/...5e2367,00.html
(for win2k but might help xp since its the same core)

WINDOWS UPDATE
Keep running the damn thing until yoo dont have to anymore... service packs, compatability updates, etc...

Newest motherboard drivers:
Make sure you have the newest drivers for your chipset.. whether it be via, sis, nforce...

Newest Video Card drivers:
if its nvidia go for the reference once since they are usually faster.. only really need the card makers drivers for the extra features (i never use extra features)

Bios update:
I dont really like messing with this but it can often solve problems. If its a new mobo you prob dont need it.

Windows XP specific tips:
Turn down the eye candy...
Goto desktop properties and get rid of some the extra crap that it forces you system to do (removing transition, fades and other stuff can improve speed dramaticly)

Comments/questions:
Why only 256 ram? Just curious since ram is so damn cheap today.
Also, are you using cheap ass ram? Cuz that could be a problem too.. if you use garbage ram it could be causing your stability issues.

You say you have an aopen ak74 mobo, but I dont see it anywhere on Aopen's site?!?

Win2k >> Winxp I think the only cool thing XP offers over 2k is the built in picture browser. Other than that, 2k is way more stable and faster.

Any other questions?
