Computers are funny. Everyone has problems with them, they always crash now and then, they never seem to run 100% all the time.
I guess no company can make a Bugg Free computer where it never has anyproblems, or buggs. Now imagine that.
I just got my PC running good. But before I found out how to fix the problem, I could download anythink from MSN. Couldn't update Windows, MSN Messenger, Couldn't get the newest version of Flash, Direct x, It was a major pain in the Ass....
But then, After I bought GTA 3 and needed to install Direct X 8.1, I needed to fix the problem.
I but luck found a site where it explained just my problem. I was able to fix it an now have no probs. (Knock on wood)
So keep looking around, Use Google alot, Search for your problems, the answer is out there somewhere....... Danm Computers..
I just installed win xp and went to the update site. There is a patch there for AMD processors for XP, so i got that one.
The problem that made win xp unstable in my case last time was that i run the windows update and it crashed leaving incomplete versions of sys files on my computer. And that couldnt be fixed. The restore function wouldnt even work. This time round it worked
I tend to have the latest drivers for everything. And the motherboard is new and i dont like to upgrade the bios unless its not working.
As for the RAM, when I upgraded my computer in december, the RAM priceses went through the roof. They cost 2.5 times what they did the week before I got the parts. So I could only get one modual. And I thought that 256 MB would be more than enough. Now that they have gone down again, I might see whats left in my wallet at the end of the month. And Im using good quality RAM.
Im sorry about the mobo. Its not an AK 74 pro, its an AK 77 pro. Thats what too much sof 2 will do to you A simple typo there.
And win xp is built on the win 2k core, but I think that a lot more things have been ironed out. I find that its more stable. Ive used win 2k pro and now im using win xp home, and i prefer home. Also it has a nicer interface and seems to be waayyyyyyyyyyyy faster (30 sec boot instead of over a min). And some more cool features.
Thanks for all the advice again
Also I wish that people like jason b, who dont have anything constructive to say would just keep their mouth shut.
running AthlonXP 1900, 562mb DDR Ram here...works like a dream as well. with a voodoo 128 mb card. you need to change you video card. i had a 64 mb could not run the game after the 3 level.
I finally know what the problem is. Thanks to scoonen. And I think that a lot of people out there will have the same problem. Its not amd and ddr, it amd and agp and win 2k or above. There is a regestry problem in windows 2k and xp that has problems with amd processors and agp graphics cards. This can cause problems with some computers, like crashing to the desktop amd restarting. You just have to get the patch from the amd website (address above) or win xp update. Then it runs fine.
And I know that geforce 2 is a little old and i want a gefroce 4. But after the patch, the game runs like a dream
the thing I found the most helpful in getting rid of stuttering frame rates was copying ALL of the Disk 2 audio files to the hard disk. Dramatic increase in performance at 800x600. Anything over 800x600 with my GF2 slows right down.
Meh got a 1.2ghz amd athlon processor, and it does not work like a charm, i only got about 256mb of syncdram ram. and the game itself takes up over 133mb of ram. when i minimize the game, then reopen it, it always flicker or sumthing soooooooo i hate mah computa!
Ok then I got Athlon 1800 256k, Nvidia 4200i G force. Remember to update or at least check your BIOS to make sure your AGP Bus speed is set to the same as your card rating, Example 128 mg card, AGP set to 128 mg. Just a suggestion. If it don't work change it back. FYI don't play around in the BIOS it could ruin some stuff. If you screw up really bad just remove your battery and reinstall it.. Of cousre don't take my word for it. Do any other Computer Dorks,"no offense, but lets face it we're computer nerds!" agree out there?
