Well you need first off to find out a few things:
  • What processor you got?
  • What grafix card you got?
  • How much memory (RAM) do you have?
  • What Internet connection do you have?

All the above will affect your game performance !!
Answer these and we can advise you what direction to go :p

in windows, do start, run, : type in dxdiag and then hit enter. All your system info will be displayed. For an worthwhile update you should have the following: DirectX 9, A directx 8 compatible vid card (ie: a redeon 8500 or better or an nvidia geforce 3 ti or better)

processor: Intel Celeron, MMX, ~498MHz
memory: 190Mb ram
Graphix: Intel(R) 82810E Graphix Controller <---is this what i need?
Modem: Cable

I don't know what to do to upgrade, or anything. I know i'm running a 24bit desktop color if this helps

I think it has 4MB of memory ! For the more graphic intense games this is not enough. I think You should try to find out if your M.B. has a AGP slot to add a graphics card , if not you may have to use a PCI card. AGP is faster and better the PCI , however the PCI card would still be a improvement over the intergrated type. Usally you have to disable the onboard graphics in the BIOS , or with a jumper on the M.B. When installing a video card that is not onboard.

You are struggling with memory too..you need at least 256 nowadays

So what do i do? I wanna see what my friends see you know? I feel like a lamer

Tech, you may want to get rid of that Celeron, and maybe get an AMD that is much faster. The graphics card i recommend is either the latest of the Geforce line, or the Radeon 7200-Radeon 9800Pro
