XP Joystick Recognition

Can anyone tell me how to get SOF2 to recognize my Joystick as an input? There isn't even a configuration selection like in JK2 to enable it.

The way i understand is that all u have to do is install ur Joystick under windows.
Smart thing to do is re-install latest version of direct-x.

btw, why use joystick in sof2 ??? i can't imagine that will improve gameplay, but its yours to decide.
