Default Help on making a custom map from scratch

I am new to map making all together, but i have an idea and i want to see if i can get it to work. I need to know what tips/tricks there are to making a map for SOF2DH and also where to get the most current programs so that i can make a map from scratch. You can email me at tsopbananaforyou@yahoo.com so that i can get the information the quickest (or (of course) you can just post a reply)
Thank you, Mike aka tsopbananaforyou

once you've installed GTKRadiant, have a look at some example maps to get an idea...(i think they include mp_kam6)
Dont be put off - it will look very confusing the first time you see it but it soon gets easier. www.modsonline.com is the best place for tutorials, download their videos.
Also do a search on mapping forums about these subjects:

Caulk
Detail brushes / Structural brushes
Models appearing black

good luck
