A cracked executable is one (and the worse one) way to avoid the DVD in the drive.
Using the original exe with a virtual drive and mini-image is another way.

Disclaimer: Don't ban me. I'm talking from customer to customer. No illegal copy shit.

You can mount the image with deamon tools, that is legal, and you can use the stable retail exe as well.

I really cant believe how many people have asked this question already without searching. There were like 4 people already if not more with the exact same xr_kamp error and they were using NoDVD, they stoped and it went away, i dont know why reperto thinks he's special.

Mini images are legal as long as you own the original game, and are used to keep your cds nice and safe from scratches.

In fact its used in the commercial applications like internet cafes, they have whole managers that mount the mini images because they have lots of games and obviously the manager doesn't want to come to every single person who wants to play a game and insert a disk.

I also found out that the synchronizing crash, is not really a crash. When it appears to have locked during loading during the Synchronizing phase, just wait. Do not Ctrl-Alt-Del as that will make it unstable (at least in Vista) and then it crashes. It take about 30% longer to load, but works just fine. Hey, I finally tried that patience thing and it paid off! Now I have to hurry back to the game...

1. anyone have a save file (that isnt the one in pripyat with infinte money (lol almost) and 800kg of insane win :P

2. my dvd drive is really old and crappy . . . doesnt play stalker :P it worked once (hence howi could install it) but never again :P so my game is cracked atm. i have all the original files however and own a legal copy of the game (just my damn dvd drives hates me). is there a step by step guide of how to make this mini image thingy?

Step 1: Go here - THE DAEMONS HOME and download Daemon Tools. This is a virtual drive application that will let you mount image files into it as if you were putting the actual disk in an actual drive. (note: you will see a new cd drives in my computer while it's running, these are the virtual drives) The first one is the one you should get. Install that (you'll have to restart your computer part-way through, then it finishes the install afterwards)

Step 2: Download this http://dl1.gamecopyworld.com/?d=2007&f=Netshow-STALKER_MI!rar It's a mini-image for STALKER : SHOC It's in rar format, so youll have to extract that. Place the extracted files in a folder of your choosing. (I'd suggest a folder called mini-image in your STALKER directory)

Step 3: Daemon Tools should have an icon in the system tray if its running. (little green square with a lightning bolt I think.. might be red) Right click this icon, make sure all emulation options are set to on. Go to the mount image in the menu that comes up when you right click, hover over it to open a menu where you can select the drive to mount in. Pick whichever one, and a window should pop up allowing you to choose the file to mount. Browse to the directory you put the extracted fil
