Question: How do I reduce the volume/distance of the harmonica sounds or, alternatively, prevent them from playing? Not only is it an annoying immersion breaker (imo), you often hear harmonica sounds eminating from stalker/bandit camps 500m away or thereabouts, because of it I don't remember the last time I didn't know I was approaching such a camp. I somehow doubt the sound of a harmonica carries that far in real-life.

Ciao N1GH7M4R3! Any Stalker mod runs with any language version. Just if it was not made for the language, you will have missing texts in the game. To avoid that, you can rename the gamedata\config\text\eng to gamedata\config\text\ita and it will show English text at all the places that have been changed/added (plus some old places).
Attenzione: You will also have to change the lines like
#include "text\eng\...xml"
in all of the xml files (where you can find these includes) to the correct folder.

I know how the translation procedure works but it's quite difficult and fortunately i understand english (but not russian ) and it's not a problem for me, it's just a comfort and not a must, So don't worry about that!

Also the damage gets calculated by using the combined damage so the power of the weapon as well as the type of ammo currently in use but i havent seen an actual formula of how it gets calculated. Awesome ive been using a strelok rifle since i received it with a silencer and scope. Havent run across a ventorez yet to try it. But i just ruined my game by making the Duty faction aggro me so just restarted.

hehe! i'm having fun in this summer while i still can, the damn school is aproaching! now no more nights spent exploring the x-labs because i have to sleep i mean that if some bloodsucker sneaks up to me i won't sleep!

just kidding if i want to shoot the head of those fools down there i just need to bring my winchester with me and everything will be fine!

about the winchester, even my cat knows that all shotguns in stalker are semi-auto but i noticed that if i press the LMB twice or three time while the shotgun is shoots one round ir reacts as putting the next shot in queue, i explain: if i want to shoot twice, i can just press the LMB twice in the first shot and right after comes the second

why this?

I think it has something to do with the rpm in the ltx files, the ltx file for winchester shows rpm set at 100 and a few commented out values like 60. So if you reduce the value, it may fix your "issue"
