lucky you i had saved a scouting file (i was feild testing OL equiment for a little project for the FAQ so you will have a S**t load of good equipment) saved right in front of him before i walked off and joined military and went on a clensing run on all loner. just to warn you it may not work [since ive tweeked some files] and if it dose you'll be heavily encoumbed with approx 800kg worth or ammo, armor and guns) a few post back i did say that my character is an engine of mass disrtruction and i ment it lol

I'm not sure if this has been said: But why is hit a FN2000 prototype I mean, the game is set 4 years in the future

You found that in Yantar correct? I'm pretty sure thats the only one known as prototype. Later in the game you can buy an FN2000 from certain traders (not sure which).

Nobody answered my silencer question. Do they effect the weapons characteristics other than the sound?

And is the rapid AK i found in the secret lair really superior to all these other guns i keep finding. Ammo types dont appear to matter much and the gun NEVER jams.

Is weapon damage based on caliber of round used or the gun using it? I cant seem to figure out which gun is superior to another since their stats are almost all equal.

Why cant there be a prototype 4 years into the future? Youve got AK74s from 1974 so why cant the early versions of the FN2000 make their way into the zone the same way? And then the perfected one later on? Just so you know there are 2 versions of FN2000 in the game.

Thats like saying: why do we need AK47s when we got AK74s?

Sorry i must have missed your original questions. Yes the silencers do make a difference. If you look in the ltx file for the AK74 for example there are two sections that look like this

; ttc
hit_power = 0.76 ; size of damage by bullet

hit_impulse = 33 ; size of physic impulse by bullet
hit_type = fire_wound ; [] type of the wound
fire_distance = 1000 ; maximum fire distance that bullet can fly
bullet_speed = 900 ; starting bullet speed
rpm = 600 ; max round per minute

use_aim_bullet = true ;Поддерживает? ли перв? суппер пу?
time_to_aim = 1.0

;params when silencer is attached
;similar to corresponding params without prefix silencer_

silencer_hit_power = 0.69
silencer_hit_impulse = 10
silencer_fire_distance = 1000
silencer_bullet_speed = 900

Also the damage gets calculated by using the combined damage so the power of the weapon as well as the type of ammo currently in use but i havent seen an actual formula of how it gets calculated. Lastly i rather enjoyed the AK74 rapid in streloks hideout but i found that VSS Vintorez is much nicer, you CAN see the difference between guns, you just have to use them long enough to realize it.
