If I Had control of the next Stalker release Im not sure I would try to make it a part of the Strelok story. Honestly I dont think the Strelok plot really added a whole lot to the game. Yes you needed some sort of a plot to advance the game to the end, and its nice that they included two competeing plots....Sids quest to control the wish granter, and Streloks quest to reveal the truth about the Zone.

I think it would be really cool for a new ZONE to emerge elsewhere in the world. Perhaps there is a competing conciousness project, maybe in Tokyo, New York, Cairo.....anywhere with cool scenery. All new mutants, different factions, more urban settings, etc......

I guess I would prefer that because a sequel has to have better weapons, better gameplay, better monsters, etc..... But we are sort of limited there because we know what was available in SoC, so CS has to stick to those limits.

Anyway, I hope someone does a mod similar to OL or Inferno for CS, it would be a shame to be limited to the Vanilla version.

I'm hoping I wont have to upgrade my game rig for CS. Its about 4 years old now but manages SOC + OL2.0 at 1440x900 with no major problems. For a 3200+ (single core that is!!) 1GB (2x512) dual chan RAM and a 256MB 6800GT thats quite surprising.

SDK - I hope so. GSC should take note of the large SOC mod'ding community and how they have really enhanced this game and fixed THEIR bugs.
That is hilarious because that is very close to what is still partly my rig and i think mine is about the same age if not a year older. I still have the 3500+ but i only had a gig of ram now ive upgraded to 3. And ive upgraded my 6800GT for a 8800GT but unfortunately i think i will be investing more money into a new rig by xmas time.

And you are absolutely right, we've seen soo many improvements with community made mods that when we see a raw version of the real developers that dosent include EVERYTHING it dosent quite meet our standards however it saddens me that the developers did not take more initiative into looking in at what the community has done and what the community wants.

I may have to disagree on that one, i think the story should absolutely be intertwined with the SoC one to add more information about the zone and it gives so much more pleasure and the 'OOOHHH!' factor to the game when the missing peices of the puzzle are filled in. I have a version of the plot in my head of what i think happens, unfortunately i think it will be far from true. As for the original story i found it quite compelling, it may seem frail and boring now that alot of us have replayed the plot over and over again. But when i played it originally, i was on the edge of my seat, not to mention i got the fake ending the first time around so i was really trying to get the real ending on my second try.

As for the new zones, you have to read the book as well as see the Stalker(1979) movie(, unfortunately for the alot of the world its been filmed in the USSR and obviously is a Russian movie. I believe there is a Russian version that at least has english subtitles that you may find, also the book is distributed for free on the net, just google roadside picnic and its the 4th link which is a PDF file.) to understand the whole complexity of the zone.

Im a fan of new locations but not new zones. For new locations and thrilling plots ill stick with Splinter Cell, one of my favourite series, with locations all over the world but going back to the new zone.

Ill try to give a breif explanation of the book and the movie to try and give people a better understanding of what the original stalker is all about.

The book:
The main idea of the book is that there were alien lifeforms so advanced that when traveling thru space they needed a break and landed on earth. The advancement/sheer energy of these beings have altered a section of the earth which is now called the zone. The laws of physics/biology/chemistry have all changed. The very gravity has reversed such was the impact. In the book this is often refered to as "the visitation" or "since the visit". Since then the zone has been cordoned off by military and only scientists are allowed in there under extreme caution to find out more about the zone. However, human curiosity wins and obviously there are people sneaking into the zone lured by the idea of strange things that can make them rich.

That is the vaige synopsis of the book however although i do recommend reading it to understand what the original idea was and how hard its been to traverse through the zone compared to the game. I warn you that the book is rather poorly organized and it can be confusing at time. The story is being told from the point of view of a stalker that has been going into the zone before the military closed it off and now works for the "institute" aka the scientists. His name is Red and lets just say he has not lost his stalker insticts.

That is why you cannot have multiple zones, i understand different c-conciousness experiments but i think theirs was one of a kind. And their version of the formation of the zone is different from the book and if you were to duplicate another c-conciousness experiment i think the story line would be fairly repetative and the zone would lose its mystique in the sequel.

The movie:
The movie takes place on the outskirts of the zone in a town where i suppose survivors of the area live. The story is fairly the same w/o the institute, its just closed off, same "visitation" happens though but this time the aliens feel bad for damaging the earth and leave "a monolith" something that grants ones deepest/biggest wish (remember that if you are going to watch it, DEEPEST/BIGGEST wish) its actually a room, in which you enter and your deepest most secretive wish comes true. Anyways there is a stalker that lives in town, from what i can tell he is one of a kind, he is "the guide". And he takes 2 people with him a poet/writer and a scientist and leads them into the zone sneaking them past the military to take them to this room because the poet has lost his will/creativity to write and the scientist simply needs to see it to believe it. However the guide is what one might call pure of soul and he takes these people not for monitary gain (although he does charge money to feed his family) but to give hope even to the most hopeless souls so most of the movie is very much philosophical vs the regular hollywood action not to mention it was filmed 30 years ago.

Again another warning, if you are going to watch it, the beginning only is very very very slow, it takes him around 10 minutes (real time) to get out of bed. Not sure why the film director did that but i think he was setting an atmosphere.

Sorry for the very long rant but i am a true fan of all the stalker material and i think any true fan of the game should take time and immerse themselves more into all of it to understand it. Ok *takes deep breath* im on the final footnote.

Im not sure why the sequel would absolutely need better weapons. Clear Sky did not have a limit for a simply reason that its not a sequel but a prequel which meens it takes place before the original, and since a blowout occurs that changes all the rules when strelok reached the center its quite plausable that good equipment is lost and stalkers are now forced to scramble for w/e they can find in the zone to survive explaining the crappy equipment in the original. Kind of like the starwars films.

If you have read ALL of that, ill give you a cookie And on that note im heading to bed. hehe

For now, there won't be another OL, if there is, it'll be for CS.
I won't even play Clear Sky until GSC or someone else remake the missing levels and removed features. Though CS is new game, I don't care, despite the fact, SOC still better and still closer to the original idea of STALKER, the deserted creepy Zone. If I wanna play shooter, I play FarCry and co...

Well, this is random crash, if you revert back the retail exe, then it will disappear. Using the nodvd exe crashes in some cases when the retail one just would log the error.

The Bar is not added to the blowout spawn. Add it on the same way how I added all other levels. Supernatur4L is right.

Hopefully CS will have the same interest and great modding like we have seen with the Oblivion lost mods.

I didn't hear about anyone who want to make global mods for CS, everyone work on SOC, still.

But to be honest with you and no offense to Kany im just forming my own hypothesis until i try the actual game (which apparently wont be for a while) Looking at the screens provided by Kany i really think he may have had some sort of hardware issues. Personally the "black water" is not CSs fault. I have better water in SoC not to mention ive tried the E3 demo and the water on my computer runs really good. And due to those gfx problems i also assume that perhaps the hardware may cause odd bugs. I cant confirm until i get the game but i would expect bugs in early release of the game, not to mention Kany has a more trained eye i suppose for these things so maybe bugs that bother him wont bother me at all.
You misunderstood my post. The weather shaders looks nice, it was just dark because I like my own dark settings, I don't like fancy games.
I meant the border of the water, it's angled and unrealistic. Got it?

Quote:
I dont have HUGE expectations for this game but once thing i do hope for is a proper SDK with clear sky that hopefully will also work on SoC files. That way, things like maps can be "easily" readded and hopefully eventually we will have a "complete" zone.
Well, dezodor checked the possibility and he said it would take months, probably. He is also working on his own mods.

GSC absolutely don't care about mods, they don't even read the forums and don't answer emails.

*Sigh* The Strugatsky Bros were the masters, along with Tarkovsky. Its nice to read it and watch it in the original language, eh?

Tarkovsky was a brilliant film maker, if not for Tarkovsky I'd probably never have played Stalker (it's not my usual type of game).

His work is discussed in most film schools around the world and it's a pity he didn't make more films. Also: His version of Solaris was about a million times better than the remake and George Clooney can f*** off.

Guys i hope there will be roleplaying servers in Clear Sky. Its too bad to roleplay with npc's. If there will be not then i hope someone will make a roleplay server.

*PROBABLY SPOILER ABOUT CLEAR SKYS BAR*

I saw in one of Clear Sky's offical pictuers, the bar is completely f*cked up by mutants. No more duty living in the bar. freedom is going to laugh at duty with their
