| hi all, im trying to make a "unique" weapon, by "unique", i mean a weapon that can use the same meshes file(i.e. ogf file) and have a different textures(different dds), so i can add my own texture without changing the default weapon. so far, i got everythihg working, i added an unique weapon without editing unique_items, i added an entire new file, i gave it a new name, i added the ltx file to weapons.ltx, i edited the prefetch and global prefecth files, but the game dont read my DDS file. ok, let me describe what i did so far and how i got it working, lets says, i want an unique mp5, with a different name, spawn and texture, but using the original mp5 ogf as base. so that is what i did: 1. i made a new file w_mp5g.ltx and i had to edit some sections. i.e. [wpn_mp5] to [wpn_mp5g] [wpn_mp5_hud] to [wpn_mp5g_hud] so everything that had mp5, i changed to mp5g... $spawn = "weapons\mp5g" visual = weapons\mp5g\wpn_mp5g.ogf [wpn_mp5g_hud] visual = weapons\mp5g\wpn_mp5g_hud.ogf etc... 2. i made a new folder for the meshes, which is the same of the mp5, i just renamed anything that had "mp5" to "mp5g", so there is nothing linked to mp5. 3. then i looked for every file that had mp5 and added a new line with the same info, but as mp5g, these files are: external.ltx prefetch.ltx and prefetch_globals.ltx 4. edited trader files, so i could buy my weapon and test it. 5. made my dds file, using the exactly name of my gun, which is MP5G, so i have the default MP5(wpn_mp5.dds, wpn_mp5_bump.dds and wpn_mp5_bump#.dds) and MP5G(wpn_mp5g.dds, wpn_mp5g_bump.dds and wpn_mp5g_bump#.dds), and i got it working, i can buy it from trader, it have all the features i set, but it still have the same mp5 texture, the game just dont read my wpn_mp5g.dds, it keep reading wpn_mp5.dds, its weird, because, changed the spawn and there is nothing telling my new gun is mp5, i thought the game would just follow it and read my wpn_mp5g.dds Am i doing something wrong? is it possible? i thought it would be really simple and just a matter of keeping the weapon name and the game would read it. |

| the weapon "mp5G" is in-game and working, but it dont have my texture, pls read again the part where i describe it, i know its hard to understand, english inst my 1st lang. |

| you will not be able to make your weapon use another skin than the default one. maby you noticed there is no value that says witch texture shuld be used, only the ogf file is picked by the "visual =" variables. this is because the used skin is defined within the ogf file. ogf it a container with the meshes and some other infos in it. the used texture, exemplary. so if you copy the ogf of the mp5 and rename it to mp5g it still will use the texture of the mp5. so your wpn_mp5g.ogf file is just a waste of disc-space, you can delete it and use the wpn_mp5.ogf instad. keep your new skin, maby with the sdk it will be possible to use it. |

| well i didnt give up, you know im kind used to it, when people say "you will not be able...", "its not possible", til i make it or see some1 make it and then, they see how easy its, im not a modder at all, but it took me a few hours to figure out what i should do to get it working and bingo it worked. I made my unique mp5, but it still dont have my custom dds, because i was testing, anyway you can see on this picture 2 MP5s, the dark one is the "default" for slot 2, the dds file is from the "real world guns" mod and the other "gray" its my unique mp5 for slot 1, i can use both at same time, pressing 1 and 2, my unique still dont have a custom dds, ill add it later, but as you can see, i got 2 of them with 2 different skin, i was testing and already using real worl gun mod, then for my unique mp5 i just added the default dds file to test. so its possible, thx anyway. ![]() |

i haven't notice this glitch with the weapons textures, but only with the weapons names -- like one of my old saves contains an AK74 on the ground that when you point at it shows the label "AN-94 Abakan" (which was done on purpose at the time). Since then, that reference to Abakan is long gone from my files and it won't show up in any "new games" i start. But if I go to that old save when the reference was active, then it shows up (obviously the gun label is not being updated with the current info but rather the cached info is used). anyways, my question is if you can replicate your 2-skins-1-weapon-model again in a "new game". |
