Im giving STALKER another shot...

I bought this game at release, but due to my computer not being up to par and other failures I never got far.

I wanted to give it another shot, but I figure it might not be a bad idea to get some mods for it to enhance the gaming experience. Nothing drastic, no gameplay chaning mods just fixes or useful addons.

Perhaps I should just run with Vanilla?

Vanilla is fun, but very glitchy. I would suggest OL 2.2 as all it does it add things to the game but also keep the vanilla quests and storyline. OL makes the game a whole lot better. If you play through vanilla once, then try OL 2.2, you'll be blown away at the difference. You'll feel as if you're playing an entirely different game, but you'll also know where all the secrets and goodies are :P

I personaly would rather play using OL 2.2. Just because it gives the game more atmosphere, which is what the game is about.

I highly recommend playing vanilla first because any major mods will make it feel like a new game the next time you play. A necessary mod is the audio fix for repeating voices. hello, hello, hello, hello, get out of here stalker, get out of here stalker, I said come in don't stand there, I said come in don't stand there.

Another mod I used a lot was Trojanuch's weather overhaul mod.

If you want to take your time with quests you could try the no time limit for quests mod. So you can do quests and pick up the reward in your own time.

Black_shadow's on the money with those mods. They will make the game much more enjoyable, especially the annoying audio one.
