Chanting Stalkers?

I noticed this once before, but I'm seeing it more often.

Who else as seen stalkers 'chanting' around a home made statue?

Yup, I've seen a guy do it in the red forest, in the first outpost when you enter the red forest area

When I read descriptions for these guys, it says they could be a religious sect.

Seeing this in the game...well, it reminds me of how Muslims pray.

Given the fact that a lot of Chechen citizens are Muslim, maybe these guys are from Chechnya.

well, it is a sort of praying, but it's imo a movement to get in a trance, like yoga, so they do this to get a "nirwana" to get contact, or a message form their sacred monolith

i think that it is more of a trance, cause if you kill the person praying right next to him, he doesnt notice.

The radiation poisoning or Radiophobia if you will, is part of the reason the monolith are so drummed into the faction, most of the members are psychopathic and/or past convicts. If you've noticed, they aren't afraid to die for that, they like to get at you for effective damage, they don't pussy foot around like others will.

If you have played all the way through the game you have been given the answer in different bits and pieces.

The monolith are just guys who went to near the brain scorcher without the psi helmet and were taken over and controlled by the c-con project. Part of the brain washing is the monolith, which calls to you in the power plant....

So the monolith guys are hearing commands from the monoloth all the time in their heads. So the trances are just another part of the brainwashing that keeps them under the control of c-con
