Default Show your FPS ingame - Step by Step Instructions!

Do you want to know your FPS (Frames Per Second?) ingame? Do you hate FRAPS because it makes the game slower? Do you like cheese?

If you answered YES to any of these questions, read on!

Step 1:
Download the RivaTuner 2.0 utility and install it.

Step 2:
Start up Riva Tuner. You should be greeted with this screen

Step 3:
The next thing you want to do is enable some plugins. Go to the "Power User" tab and scroll down until you see "RivaTuner\Monitoring\Plugins"

Enable these plugins by right clicking and hitting the yellow light bulb icon.

If you want to monitor CPU temp, GPU temp, System or Video Memory dont forget to enable those.

Step 4:
Next, scroll up just a bit until you see "RivaTuner\Monitoring"

Make sure that "BackgroundMonitoring","EnableMonitoringPluginWizard","EnableOSDGroups", and "EnablePlugins" are all set to "1"

Step 5:
Now scroll down till you see "RivaTuner\Monitoring\FrameRate" and make sure that "ShowInOSD" is set at "1"

Step 6:
Go back to the "Main" tab and click the little arrow thing near where your card is listed.

Click "HardWare Monitoring" (The one with the magnifying glass)

Step 7:
Now you want to make sure the little red dot at the bottom is selected

You can see it is selected here.

Step 8:
Now click "Setup" and this window will pop up

You want to make sure that next to each thing you want to monitor it says "In OSD". Im not 100% sure what the checkmark means, but make sure its highlighted (just click on it). Now click "Setup" when you have "FrameRate" selected and this should pop up

Make sure that "Show framerate in on-screen display" is checked. You can now close this window (hit ok) and the other widows until you get back to the main RivaTuner window.

If you want to monitor anything else they follow the same method, just choose it in the list and hit setup.

Step I stopped counting:
All right, now you need to set up a way to start the server so you can monitor your stats.

From the main RivaTuner window select the "Launcher" tab.

Now click the green "+" arrow at the bottom to add a new item

You should get this window

Fill it in just as I have done here (you can use a different key though)

Hit OK on that, then click the green "+" key again and fill this in

This gives you a key to turn the monitoring off.

Step I can't go on!!!:

Ok, we are almost done. Now with the main window of RivaTuner open, if you hit the "Num +" (or whatever key you set it too) key you should see this pop up in the taskbar at the bottom. That means the server is running.

IMPORTANT!!!!! The RivaTuner Client (and server) must be running while you are playing the game for it to display your stats!!!!

If you hit the "Num -" key you should see this icon disappear.

Step we are almost done, I swear (just don't tell my parents):
Ok, now you want to make sure the server knows to monitor the game exe. Right click the monitor program and choose setup

Remember to right click the one with the green arrow, that is the server, the other one is the main RivaTuner.

Once that pops up you should get this screen.

Make sure that "OSD On" is selected, and then go to "Add Profile".

Now you want to find the "xr_3da.exe" file that is located in your S.T.A.L.K.E.R. (or whatever game you want to monitor) folder. In my case it was located at "C:\Program Files\THQ\S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - Shadow of Chernobyl\bin\XR_3DA.exe"

You can also change the color of the OSD display, move it around, etc... You can do this for any profile, or do it globally.

FINAL STEP!!!:
You can close all of that mumbo jumbo (leaving the RivaTuner and Server open) and start the game, if you did everything correctly (and i didnt leave anything out) then you should notice your FPS in the top left corner (and any other things you are monitoring as well)

This concludes my tutorial on getting this damn program to work.

If everything goes to plan it should look like this
Spoiler:

I am monitoring my GPU Temp, FPS, System Memory Usage, and Video Memory usage

This seems like ALOT of work, no? I've been using FRAPS since my WoW days (well over a year and a half now) and I've never noticed that is slows my system, at all. It's just a simple program that runs in the background and shows my FPS.

FRAPS is like the retarded brother of RivaTuner.

I get sluggish performance when using fraps, i dont get it with RivaTuner, plus i can monitor more things

i'd just like to say to the ATI graphics card users:

download ATI Tray Tool and just 5 clicks and you'll be set.
1. after install, right click on the tray tool icon
2. select Tools and Options, then click on On Screen Display
3. make sure under general settings, they are all ticked, under FlashOSD, tick anything you want. and set FlashOSD to "shall all time"
4. click OK
5. click on the game

and your FPS will be displayed on the top right, with smaller fonts showing other information.
you can also investigate the Hot Keys function and set to take screenshots (useful for some games), to change the OSD position, to turn on/off OSD, lots options.

You could follow that long walkthrough or you could use the ingame FPS feature.

in the console type this :

rs_stats on
rs_stats off

It logs alot of data to the screen but you can see FPS there somewhere ;p

Isnt rivatuner ONLY for nvidia? Anyways, I dont care for it... ATI Tray tools with Omega Drivers OWN. Just use rs_stats "1"; run around in a few circles and you can get an idea of an average. Then turn it back off. I get an average of about 40 FPS on high+ settings.

Hehe this works great. Thanks a lot!
Just I can't get the cpu temp module to load. The pluggin(NVSU.dll) is highlighted and ticked and parameters seem OK but the relevant graph window doesn't even show up
Thanks for any clue.
Also, can this OSD be displayed as an horizontal line instead of a vertical list?
