Clear Sky issues

This is a discussion on Clear Sky issues within the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky General Discussion forums, part of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Clear Sky category; I've had one minor graphical glitch, but other than that, no problems. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones....

They have apparently pushed back the release date to around the 15th of Sept (15/9/2008). That should tell you how well this is being received, and how the Russian release was a Beta in disguise. That should mean that some of these issues will be fixed, but it also means that the release date will probably be pushed back even further. The official excuse is that they forgot to print the CD-Keys for the N.A. boxes. Right, and monkeys are going to fly out of my... There is no way to forget to print the cd-keys since it is their anti-piracy measure and random testing during the production would have caught this. That is why all manufacturers perform random testing. Nice try...

I Grabbed this from GSC's site when it was running for a few seconds today (colors added):
"3. On my Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 game runs in single core mode. It simply utilizes only one of two cores. Same problem we have with quad-core processors (tested it on QX9650). There are a 'swap file problem' that is still actual - on my 4Gb DDR2 5-5-5-12 and WinV 64bit, STALKER uses only 1.5Gb of RAM and 3Gb of swap file. And if you turn off swapping to swap file, the game won't run at all until your swap file is enabled and at least 3Gb. And there is a 'strangest-of-them-all' thing - on my ASUS 4850 512Mb CrossFire this game runs horrific (5-25 FPS) on 'Medium DX9' settings, but is 'good to play' (30-60 FPS) on 'High DX10' settings. Graphics quality and game performance sometimes depends on how (not as 'high' or 'low', but in what sequence) you will set your game detail level and texture filtering level and etc.
4. There are hundreds of quest bugs, performance bugs and gameplay bugs. Sometimes game crashes to desktop. Rarely game crashes to BSOD. And THIS IS OFFICIAL RELEASE with the latest patch installed!!!

p.s. The game was tested ~9 hours on:
ASUS P5Q Pro
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850/Core 2 Extreme QX9650
4Gb Corsair XMS2 5-5-5-12
ASUS HD4850 CrossFire
500Gb Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 32Mb cache
22" Samsung SyncMaster 226bw 1680x1050"

This is not just a complaints thread, but also to post anything that might help those that have purchased the game. The fact that the sequence of settings is important and that BSODs are possible is information that any prospective player needs to have.

Cheers!
You seem to be the man so could you please help. My system has the power to run this game but I cannot activate the Volumetric Smoke and Wet Surfaces buttons.
Also, I saw on another post(which I now cannot find) that a chap had edited a file to lessen the spread of the machine gun bullets. The line read; fire_dispersion_base 0.08 and he changed the end to 0.05 to good effect, exactly where can I find this file ? I need the full string please.

Those are DirectX10 features. You need to get Directx10 or find some tweaks to get those features.

Playing the Russian version has been a HUGE disappointment. Everything mentioned above is true. And the game has lost its' realism; it is now a two dimensional shooter. How could they have botched up a good game so much?

Some of these problems with graphics card could be driver related and such too. I've seen some of these issues with other games, where running lower settings doesn't always reflect into faster overall FPS and higher game performance. You'd think it will always work out this way but there are so many factors to decide this, not just the game itself. I have this as one of main machines for running Stalker: SOC and CS on...

MSI K8N Neo (Socket 754)
AMD Athlon 64 3200 @ 2.4Ghz
ATI Radeon X850 Platinum Edition 256MB GDDR3 AGP8X
Creative SB-XFI Platinum setup for Dolby Digital 5.1
(3) Corsair XMS 512MB DDR-433mhz
(2) WD Raptor-X 150GB SATA
Dual Boot Setup ~ XP Pro (SP3) / Vista Ultimate 32-bit (SP1)

Both Stalker games run just fine on
DX9 / 1024x768 / Medium / Full Dynamic Lighting

There is an occasional pause during gameplay that lasts maybe 2secs. or less when the game accesses the Virtual Memory or RAM heavily. I have my Page File set to 2GB Min & Max and I have had a few rare issues of either game crashing, but hey not every game runs 100% ~ But have had hardly the issues I see alot of people complaining about.

Just wanted to share with you all, thanx. Also wanted to add I run SOC (US retail v1.0005) and CS (Russian v1.00)
CS actually runs better and looks better then SOC running on my system, go figure.
I also play OL2.2 and Priboi as well. Runs a little slower then vanilla SOC, but still plays fine.

As for the liberals who are trying to give this crap fest a feel good spin (Oh, 2.0 will be so-o-o much better), I say BOLLOCKS! I doubt GSC will be around in a years time. You simply cannot treat the gaming world, acting like a centralized Soviet style government. We vote with our money. GSC should follow the path that made the Unreal series so successful; foster and support a strong modder community. This makes for loyal fans who are sure to purchase the next release. Personaly, after beating myself senseless trying to play the Russ relase of the game, I strongly doubt I will spend my hard earned money on the US release when it finally ships.

Not in North America. Both Deep Silver and GSC said it was recalled in all of NA due to the vast majority of their boxes not having the CD key. Since they did not recall any that I can find, my initial suspicion that this was a load of seems to be correct. Its nice to see the 'so called' journalists doing their jobs and doing a little fact checking. Now you see how some reviewers could give it such high marks. Well, I played it for 10 minutes and it looked great! 8.8/10 Remember that this was before any of the patches.

Yep, DX10.

Go to the game's install directory "/gamedata/config/weapons". You will see files ending in .ltx. Before you begin make a copy of them JIC (just in case). Open these with a text editor (notepad will do). Each weapon has that a fire_dispersion_base so you will need to edit all of them (or just the ones that you want to use). Before you begin make a copy of them JIC (just in case). After you are done you should compress a copy of them to save JIC you remove the game and then want to play again after a few months with Fallout 3.

Cheers!

What do you mean by scripted? I've had blowouts in places I've already been to and had nothing to do with the story. I just get the objective to find cover and a marker to the nearest building.

You have said what I and many others agree with, it is generally accepted that modders are an intrinsic part of the Gaming world (and thank god for that)and many leading Dev houses embrace the fact by ensuring kits are out there as fast as possible for the modders to finish the game for them. These Ruskie chappies took years to get SoC on the shelves, and that only came about because of outside help. If they have the arrogance to take our money and then we find out we have a Beta (no wonder it was being sold for £17-99, which means our lot were ripping us off aswell)and they won't release the kits the modders need they will find out that we will stick two fingers up and tell them to take a hike (or FO, which is what I really mean). The gaming sites and magazines can all bow their heads in shame for treating the people who pay their wages in this way, seems it isn't just those connected with the financial world who want to rip us off.
