Hi I have the same problems I have tried everything above and even uninstalled McAfee but cannot play the game. Some shit is about to get busted up, f##k this shit I have Vista could that be the problem??????

Punkbuster has been updated with a new setup and the old method is no longer supported.

Get the new PB_Setup and run it from the link below...............

Hope this is helpfull, here's my story...

I recently updated my video card drivers (like, two days ago) before this problem occured. I ALSO reinstalled my vid card overclocking program (cuz vista is stubborn with OC'ing... the program is RivaTuner). So i double click my bf2 shortcut after Iwas done with my updates. Sure enough, PnkBstrB.exe handshake error. Then I remembered that my OC'ing program had an option when i reinstalled it. Basically its an option to secure the the OC settings of the vid card from Punkbuster. Heres just the first sentence from a long explanation in the RivaTuners help file:
"Added protective technologies aimed to jam unsafe memory scanner of PunkBuster anticheat system and this way prevent this anticheat system from crashing graphics hardware when RivaTuner resides in memory."
I did install rivatuner with that option. And i couldnt understand why it was conflicting with PunkBuster. So I was thinking and thinking... and staring at the windows clock on the bottom right of the taskbar.
Then, Eureka!
Rivatuner program itself needed to run in the background and it wasnt in my running tasks tray beside my clock.
So I let the program minimize to tray and voilà! BF2 is running again.

I know sum of you are saying, " well' if youre using that program to oc shouldnt it be on all the time?". Nope, Rivatuner is set registry wise to startup when windows starts. so no extra app to startup, justmy oc settings.

So i hope this is helpfull in some way or another.

sadly for Nvidia players this may work but i have radeon and rivatuner is for Nvidia only right? And also what option did u excatly check when u installed rivatuner that allowed Punkbuster 2 work

I didn't start having this problem until just recently. But it is persistent and I've tried a lot of suggestions. I really miss playing BF2. Keep posting if you are successful in resolving the issue.

Ok some of you are confused so here is how it works. For all of you having this problem, you must do uninstall with pbsvc. Then reinstall wth pbsvc. Delete the pb folder. Then do pbsetup. Add BF2 and update. It'll work until you get off. Once you try to get back in, it won't work until you do this whole process again. I have contact evenbalance and here is what they said:

Ok, I need some log information from you. I want you to do the following:

Join a PB server, and drop the console with ~, then type

pb_logtofile 1

and then

pb_writecfg

Wait until you get kicked. Now check your ..\pb folder for a file called pbcl.log If you have hidden your file extensions, please make sure you open pbcl.log and not pbcllog.cfg! or pbcl.db Paste the line from there into a new note.
Please note: Windows Vista users will find that file under "C:\Users\[YourUserName]\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\[game]\pb". To find that folder, enter "%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\PunkBuster\" to the navigation bar in your Windows Explorer, as some folders in this path might be hidden folders. Unless you activated the option to see hidden folders, you will need to enter the correct path directly into the navigation bar.

In case the kick occurs too fast to type the commands, go to your PB folder and create a plain text file "pbcl.cfg" in it (use a text editor like "Notepad", make sure it has no additional '.txt' extension). Put the text "pb_logtofile 1" as a single line to it. Then save the file and join a PB enabled server. After getting kicked, you should have a file "pbcl.log" in the PB folder.

I did this and I have posted the log. I am still waiting for a reply. It has almost been 3 whole days now.

Unfortunately, they just fcked everything up and 1000s can't even play. What's weird is it only happened to some people...

PLEASE PUT THE EXACT SOLUTION HERE GUYS. I saw this guy in this thread put a solution from what EA said or whatever. No one said it works so keep posting.

All of you contact evenbalance. Just google then fill in a support ticket. Very easy.
