Anybody else getting the feeling that Enemy Territory Sucks? Don't let the topic title offend you too quickly, don't get me wrong, but the ET multiplayer test is really sucky. I am not just talking about how little they have in it, but has anybody else tried to play on it with 56K dialup? It is next to impossible. I am not talking about lag like just glitchy jumpiness and non-smoothness while running, I mean, a constant "Connection interrupted" message. It doesnt matter what server you join, whether it be a ping of 196 (which is amaizing for 56K) or a ping of 220 (about average), you still get the same thing. I truely hope the full game will fix this problem, and I hope they release a patch for this multiplayer test fixing the code so 56K people can at least move around! I am looking forward to ET, and have been for quite some time :p, they just gotta fix that multiplayer thing. |
I am on cable, and i have a hard time playing :( |
Yep me to I got cable to, and get the same thing, and lag to boot |
same here cable also never had any problems for most part on wolf |
ditto. im on cable also and i havent played since they released it. just to laggy. |
This is official, and is posted here in the www.rtcwfiles.com. Maybe it help u lagged people. Thanks to everyone for downloading the Enemy Territory test! We're watching the forums and have found a few issues that we'd like to address to help make your game better: - LAG Problems with choppy gameplay may be the result of not setting your connection speed when you create your profile. The connection defaults to ISDN, which is a rate of 5000. If your rate is set to something not appropriate for your connection, you'll get lag. If you're playing over a LAN or a DSL or cable modem, your rate should be set to 25000. To set your rate, pull down the console (~) and type "/rate (number)" without the quotes. You can also do this by choosing the "Options" button in the main menu, then choosing "System" and checking the connection speed (near the bottom of the screen). Be sure to press Apply. Thanks to feedback sent in by players, your comments have already helped us track down issues with the network code that may have otherwise not been located. So please keep sending those bug reports in (etbugs@idsoftware.com). - TIPS & TRICKS To help new players get the hang of Enemy Territory, here's a few tips: - ET is objective based, meaning you have to complete objectives to win. In the Limbo screen (where you set up your character), you'll see the objectives outlined at the bottom. - Completely new to a Wolfenstein online game? Play the soldier class with a Thompson or MP40 -- it's a great way to get the hang of the game and the map. - Engineers are critical -- always have one on your team. If you're an Engineer and you see a wrench icon over something, that means you have to build it. Choose 5 for your tool and press fire to build. - The tank has a useable MG. Hit the "Activate" button when near the tank to get in. - If you're not sure who to shoot, here's a tip: members of your team will show their name and health when your crosshair is over them. Enemies do not. - You must have PunkBuster cheat protection enabled to join a server running PunkBuster. The selection to enable PunkBuster is at the bottom right of the Play Online server browser. - If players with good ping times to your server are complaining about choppy performance you should reduce your max player limit for your server. - IS IT REALLY FREE? Yes. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory really will be a free stand-alone game. You won't need anything to play it. Look for more information about it at http://www.castlewolfenstein.com as we shake out the bugs in this test and get ready to release the full version.: |
i am dsl and i get the same thing. it is not that rate thing. |
i learned that it has alot to deal with your vid card to, im on cable and was having trouble, and ive always wanted a new vid card, so i got it, and it made a world of difference, no lag at all for me |
ET sucks cuz theres only one map if there were more it would be fun but...not when you lag!    |
I don't think splash damage is too concerned about the 56K crowd ,it seems to me they never intended great support for anyone on dial-up. it's a shame too because et seems like a good game but 56k players will never get to enjoy it. |
