Default Question about making mountain ranges

I was wondering what the best way to create mountains is in GTK radiant? I am making a small village type map, where the Allies fight the Axis for parts of the map, but I want to put mountains in to cap the level off. What's the best way to do this? What's the best and easy way to make terrain, where you can edit the Vertexes? Also how big should the terrain grid be for a MP map? I want a medium size level with houses, churches etc,. This is what I tried so far... I made a brush and turned it into a simple mesh and edited the vertexes. I tried the same for mountains but It doesnt work, then I made a brush with mountain texture and opened the plugin gensurf or whatever and made it into terrain. I then Edited the vertexis. After I put the sky in which im sure Im doing wrong, I put a stat point in and went to compile it. There were many leaks, so Im jut going to start over. Please, any help ideas, suggestions or settings I should change somewhere that you think of would be appreciated.

rtcw - you can catch me under the name Lost Soul. I can be found periodically on the server All tram all the time.

Default EasyGen Terrain maker

Luger9mm, Goto this site http://www.planetpointy.com/wolf/map...easygen1.shtml
Click on EasyGen, then DL it from the site it takes you to. You can use a simple paint program like paint for Windows.

All you have to do is create an 8bit grayscale(black to white) bitmap. Start out with a 51x51 pixel black image. Then, using the different in between shades from black to white, create areas where you would like different heights. Pure white would be tall mountains, gray would be middle sized and black is sea level, and you have all shades in between to use. Think of this bitmap as if you were looking down from above over mountain ranges. then save it 8bit grayscale, bitmap. Import it to EasyGen, then follow through the tutorial link above. It is so simple to use, a great program. You can also choose terrain textures with this program, just like GTK.

Thanks man, the next part is adding in houses. Can you reccommend a websight that features period pictures of houses? What height would you reccommend they be? Do you know where I can go to get prefabs?
Thanks again

Default Best help sites for mapping

Here are some helpfull links that should get you whatever it is you need for mapping.

http://www.wolfensteinx.com/surface/tutorials.html
I think that Surface is the best. Very detailed explainations and easy to follow. The creator of this tut walks you through each click of your mouse to get something done.

http://www.planetwolfenstein.com/tra...resources.html
This site is also very extensive. I didn't use this as my tutorial, but Tramdesign gives you many many links such as models, sounds, textures, also direct downloads of great programs, editors, a roq movie creator, tons of stuff. There are listings of model sites here.

http://planetwolfenstein.com/bubbawolf/
Bubba's Castle is also very good. Some prefabs found here.
