What age are rtcw gamers?

Captain_Crunch May 11th, 2002 08:27 AM

Hey! i just realised, rtcw is not suitable for under 15s. Its rated 15. Just thought i would point that out.

apocalypse_kid June 3rd, 2002 10:51 AM

42 - hey isn't that the meaning of life?

|WOW|IRONMAN June 3rd, 2002 12:34 PM

Almost 41 yrs young. That old theory that teenagers have better hand-eye coordination and will whip you because you're old? NOT! Most of the better players of any game that I've known have been 38-50 yrs old. Yup.

:-)

FlederMaus! June 16th, 2002 10:53 AM

It is refreshing to see that I am not the ol' man on the block.
I am 37 yo, and an original Wolfenstein 3d player back when it came out and impressed the world with the then new, first person shooter styling. I remember reading in gaming magazines WHAT they were going to call these style games, since at the time all we had were role playing, simulators, and Ultima, overhead perspective type games.

I was so impressed with RTCW that I built a new computer system to fully take advantage of this game, and in the matter of a few months, set up 5 gaming-only computers on my home network so we can have small LAN parties, with the luxury of not having to haul your computer to my house. It's fun. Took several "junk" computers ranging from 400 mhz PII's to 733 PIII's, put GF 2's in them and a NIC card in ea, and we have a great set up. Even the PII computer runs better graphics than new HP computers running processors 4 times its speed, and will run games like SOF2 that require 450mhz or above to run, very well.

I think all this stems from not having any cool toys when I was younger, so I have to make up for it now.

See you at the BEACH!

49 here. Are we not suppose to return in infancy as we grow older? hehe

spider June 19th, 2002 09:49 AM

 So far I remain the "Old Fart" of the posted ages at 53

The only problem I have is keeping my kids off line so I can play.

No one out there that is older??...come on...admit it....

Damn... seems like I am the baby here and I'm 30!

RTCW rocks!!! A far cry from the day when I got my first computer ...Commodore 64:dance:

Captain_Crunch June 22nd, 2002 11:01 AM

i know i said i was finished with this forum but when i saw the last post...i just hadda respond. MY FIRST COMPUTER WAS A COMMADORE 64 TOO! i loved it, i had a tape drive and everything. it was amasing cause nobody else i knew had a computer and it was the first one on our street. the graphics were so crap it was untrue. but it was awsome! remmember 'Dizzy' ? ! i nearly completed it.

CAPTAIN cRuNcH

FlederMaus! June 23rd, 2002 09:56 PM

I was debating whether to get the commadore computer. I bought this horrible Tandy 1000 hx. I think the first game I got for it was f19.
I had to use my TV as a monitor, and I got a modem for it running at a cool 300 baud.

For what I paid for that lousy computer, something like $600, and what $600 will buy today, it is amazing how far computers have come.

About the average age of gamers... I am not sure this poll shows the accuracy since anyone under 30 probably is doing better things than taking polls haha.

apocalypse_kid June 24th, 2002 04:51 AM

Hi all,

I had a Commodore 1000, with the 1571 floppy drive and dot matrix printer. I forget what I paid for it but I sold it for $1000 (Australian of course). Wasn't the first computer I had though, but it was the first one with colour!!! I had a game console before that a 5200 thingy I think, then a mono computer just for writing, haha what a laugh, prolly paid more for that than I did for my current pc.

Dude...you are way ahead of the game if you think you are stupid...took me 30 years to realize how dumb I am at times...but, look at it this way...you got a lot to learn and that ain't a bad thing...me...I'm still learning cause most of the people around me are way smarter and from what I've seen in some of your posts that includes you and your computer knowledge...

WolfUmbra July 10th, 2002 03:53 PM

Yea, you young folk got a sweet advantage, learn what you can while you can cuz it gets harder to learn as you get older...

[AoD] Hot_Girl July 13th, 2002 11:51 AM

Im 23 and a female gamer...we are sparse but the female population is starting to grow. I am in a great clan [AoD] and love playing RTCW.

I probably should clarify my other post...if you think you are stupid, you will approach every situation as if there is something you need to learn. If you assume you are smarter than the average bear, you will be reluctant to listen as you already think that you know what there is to know in any given situation. Take you for instance, sadly, alot of adults don't listen to what teenagers have to say on a given subject and thats a shame cause in some instances you know alot more on the subject than the adults.

SOOOOOOOOOOO...I think I'm not all that smart...as a result...most all of the people I run into have something to teach me and I get to learn a whole bunch of neat stuff about alot of neat stuff...

Don't mean to make the thread "serious" but did want to try and clarify my earlier post...

I agree, I am 19 years old. I was around before first person shooters were around. I think that I will only get better with age. Dont believe that older people have less hand eye coordination, it just brings experience.

WolfUmbra July 25th, 2002 01:23 PM

Yea, I started when i was 7 or 8 with the tv version of PONG. been gaming since, and I only get better. Younger kids seem to learn the actions faster but they don't get better as fast as they learn the game controls. Strategy is a long-learned skill.

Techman July 28th, 2002 10:05 AM

Great! I feel better, now. ;)

FlederMaus! August 2nd, 2002 07:37 PM

My not-quite 2 year old son is nuts about RTWC. (not a good game for little kids I admit) But somehow, he is able to turn on the computer, the monitor, start RTCW MP, and actually join servers. It's a little embarassing since he is pretty limited on what he can do IN the game, but he is sure good as throwing grenades and blowing himself, and other team mates up. I had to hide all the desktop game icons today so that might slow him down a little bit. Now, if I can just keep him from hitting the RESET button on the computer.

SO.. my sincere appologies if you ever find him in your server! It really is NOT me!

Techman August 2nd, 2002 11:44 PM

LMAO!!!:D :D :D

That's funny...a two year old.

I hope he never sees that ad where this kid puts a peanut butter sandwich in the VCR. :D

WolfUmbra August 3rd, 2002 10:40 AM

that is too funny, no one would ever know that he is 2 either.

Dutchman August 4th, 2002 05:16 AM

When I started playing MP, I tought that the average age was about 16 or 17, and that nobody was over 25 or something, but when I asked in a game what age everone was, there were quite people saying they were ages over 30. Some of them could lie, but it were so many I had to believe it. But now I know I'm one of the younger players in the game it's quite fun to see all those adults playing this kind of games... Just wondering how the wifes think about that! :D ;)

BTW: NO OFFENSE MEANT IN THIS POST!!!!

Techman August 4th, 2002 05:53 AM
