Maze is a screensaver... Maze is a screensaver for win95+ |
That's what I mean! |
For my post? Win95+ meens windows 95 edition and up through XP |
27, and my first computer was a Heathkit H-89 running CP/M. Now, I'm trying to convince my wife to allow me to build a couple of new machines for home... as well as run a T-1 into the house so I can host my own server. ;d Oh... and I played the original overhead-looking sort-of-sideways Castle Wolfenstein on my Commodore 64. Pre-Wolf 3D. |
How much does a T1 run? I thought it goes for like 10g's a month. That s what we were paying at a small college here in NJ. And where abouts in NJ are you? I'm in northern NJ..... |
Hi Dark Lotus, T1 is the measure of the speed of the connection, not the amount of data transferred over a month. T1 is 1.544 mbps. T3 is 45 Mbps. Your monthly limit is generally whatever the user pays the carrier for. T1 should be fast enough to host a decent multiplayer game of BF1942. Have fun :cya: :cya: :cya: |
I'm in Somerset county, Lotus. Apocalypse, he was referring to cost. "10gs a month" = $10,000/month. Actually, from several "local providers" here in Somerset (though the copper is still owned by Verizon), you can get a full T-1 for around $1,000/month. My business is debating upgrading from an IDSL line to fractional T-1 service (768kbps throughput) for $590 or so per month through speakeasy.net. And yes, a T-1 puts through 1.544Mbps... which is more than fast enough, barring latency issues upstream, for hosting a decent sized server. |
Surprising It's kind of surprising to me seeing that majority of gamers who voted at 16-25. When I'm playing I usually find that most of the people on the server I play in are in their mid 30's and 40's. |
Oh, right! Sorry I'm in Australia, we don't use that term ever, only see it in movies and stuff so it didn't click. 10-15 thousand a month should get you T3 depending on your provider. You should be able to get a limited T1 connection for 1,000 a month. I think the 10,000 is probably for unlimited data as well as the T1 speed. You can move a lot of data in a month using a T1  And that's an interesting point IJTF_Avenger. What you may find though is that the age range we are getting here is more likely the age group that uses online forums, discussion groups and chat rooms than the age group that plays games. So consider the age group that uses these forum to be biased in favour of the younger game players. Except ppl like me that is  :cya: :cya: :cya: |
