| Hello! I am Jdawgg, site administrator of www.RTCWFiles.com and have gotten tons of requests for information, and only tid bits of data. I sure would hate to start rumors, so don't want to speculate on the little info I have. However, it's been a while, so it's time for a refresher course! So let's start by recapping on what is known so far... There was a G4 TechTV interview with Todd Hollenshead (mostly about Doom 3) where he started to talk about future outlook of the company and slipped out how "The sequel to Return to Castle Wolfenstein is already underway at another studio..." He was later approached by Gamespy, and he said he had no comment as he probably said too much already... This all came shortly after Splash Damage (the creators of Wolfenstein - Enemy Territory) made an announcement that they were starting their next project which is based on the Doom 3 engine, and were hiring new positions... Now I know this kind of thread has probably been posted several times, but let me just get things straight now that several months have passed -- Splash Damage starts a new game, Todd Hollenshead spills the beans that another studio is working on RTCW 2, and both Splash Damage and id Software have no comments? I tried contacting Activision about all of this, and they gave me the typical "No comment" and "We may be able to arrange something with you in the future" response. However, when I contacted Splash Damage earlier last week looking for some more information I did not turn up empty handed; I certainly did not get a straight up yes or no from them, but I got what can only be described as a riddle. | wow...it seems every place i go to get tidbits of information on the release or even who might be involved, i find the same quote... [quote2=numerous sources]GameSpy: Todd, you recently appeared on a recent show on G4 where you mentioned Return to Castle Wolfenstein 2. What can you tell us about that? Todd Hollenshead: Well, I probably said more than I should have in that interview, so I'll avoid getting in further trouble by saying I've probably said more than enough already.[/quote2] heheh...that's one helluvan answer! i guess at that point, it's all about CYA!

| Yes, the general word that is going around is that RTCW was a classic, but slowly dying. ET had a poor birth, and thus did not live up to standards; especially with no single player. So it is time for RTCW 2 - and it looks like id Software, Activision, and whichever one of id's satelite companies is deloping it agrees. When I get more info, you will get more info. I have exhasted all other mediums of information, so have been going to direct sources looking for a little "slippage"

| i found this while i was surfing the net...they seem to have pegged the release date as july 2007... crap...won't let me upload the image, i can only save it as bmp, and it's too large; and i don't have time to crop it, we close in 5 minutes... heres some of it. [quote2=frpnet.com/rtcwstuff/] Computerandvideogames confirms RTCW 2 release date for July 2007. Well I guess it's finally great to know when it will be here but by that date were all gonna have to wait awhile. I'm sure it will be sooner than July 2007 and a demo six months before that so everyone keep the community going by playing lots of ET, RTCW, ETF and soon to come POP and TCE.Comments by Computerandvideogames "id CEO Todd Hollenshead has revealed in a recent interveiw that work on a sequel to epic World War II horror-shooter Return to Castle Wolfenstein is already underway. Splendid, let's howl at the moon and break out the tins of Pedigree Chum as Hollenshead confirmed: "Return to Castle Wolfenstein - the sequel to that ...is already in the works at another studio." Although this is only factoid we know, we can probably expect development on RtCW 2 (title TBC) to follow the established pattern, with id presumably overseeing development at the unnamed studio, much as it did with Gray Matter for the original game.[/quote2] i'm guessin this is all speculation, i'm also guessin that this is an older bit of news... i'll upload it when i get home, stay tuned....

| I remember that interview, heh. I hope that they heavily modify the Doom 3 engine though so we are able to fit more than 4 people per server on it. |

| Yeah, that release date is definitely CVG's own hypothesis, it has no backing what-so-ever by Activision, id Software, or any other company for that matter - thus RTCWFiles will not post it :P. And yes, that is a fairly old article. I have a feeling that we will see RTCW 2 at the very latest 2006 (I bet they are shooting for a holiday release 2005). I mean let's face it, the next generation of technology (the Unreal Engine 3) is going to have its first FPS built on its engine released in 2008... So if RTCW 2 only lives for 6 months before the next-gen game is out, that would be bad planning on id's side. -Jdawgg

| Yeah. In John Carmack's blog, he mentioned that he would be working on a new project with some interesting technology, so this could possibly be it. I know that the Doom 3 engine is great for the low-light conditions and all, but even on high graphics settings, when I walked to a light, everything looked really crappy and buggy. I'd love to see RTCW 2, since the only two amazing games in the graphics department are Doom 3 and Half Life 2. Anyway, there aren't enough id games, so it's something I'd like to see. |

| Well I seriously doubt RTCW 2 will be powered by John Carmack's new engine he is designing. Reason being, graphics engines usually take years to build, followed by years of market adoption, followed by years of game design. My estimate is we wont see games being powered by Carmack's new engine until 2010 - I mean, BioWare isn't going to release their new FPS built on the Unreal Engine 3 until 2008, and their game will be the first to be powered by Unreal Engine 3...
