What would be the conditions of your joining (i.e. would you be willing, or would it be more of a last resort kind of thing)? What incentives would you want, if any (i.e. job of choice, base closer to home, enlistment bonus, and etc.)? What branch would you join? What job would you want? Would you want to be an officer or start out enlisted? And how long would you stay in?

I've done conscription, and while of course professional people have far better stuff to do, I don't like the military atmosphere. Even the professional NCOs seemed to be genuinely annoyed at some bureaucratic nit-picking the unit commander was giving. Some narcissistic type persons seem to really enjoy giving commands and seem to find themselves working in the army.
To enjoy something like the the French Foreign Legion you have to have very strong ideals of "I'm a tough guy" and hold military authority in very high regard. You can't simply think that this stuff is stupid (which all military stuff is), because that way you lose motivation.
But sure, I could work in the logistics or at an air force base for example if there would be an adequate pay.
It would either be under extreme duress or willingly. I genuinely change my mind on the subject from one minute to the next. Last year I was considering joining, and even altered my gym regimen accordingly. Right now I would rather pluck out my own eyes than serve in the armed forces. It'll probably change again in time.

I too change my mind on this question quit a bit, probably because I'm currently unemployed and my career prospects at the moment aren't all that bright.
If I were to choose a branch of the Canadian Forces, I would probably choose the Navy on the basis that they actually go places and at those time when I do think about enlisting in the military, it's often times when I do not want to be anywhere near home. Conditions? I have no interest in taking the Oath of Allegiance, which involves declaring one's fealty to the monarchy. Even though the monarchy has such a small role in Canadian society, I find the idea of swearing an oath of fealty to, or celebrating someone born into privilege repugnant. Other conditions: I guess I'd have to re-learn how to swim I guess, because my greatest fear is of drowning.

However, we do (I suspect others do as well) have an oath where you swear to the god of your choice. But you have the option of "making an affirmation" if you don't have one

I dislike a lot of aspects about such jobs. Being ordered around, probably by idiots. The risk of ending up dead, a cripple or mental wreck. The possibility of fighting for people who have no idea what they are doing. Low pay, bad work-life balance, little gain in experience that is applicable outside of the military.
The only type of military work I would consider is where you would be far away from any front lines, earning decent money, with a very low risk of your country entering a war any time soon.
On condition that I come and report in only when my services are required in the field. And resign whenever I want, with no questions asked.
Low pay will do. Even no pay will do. As a community service [to save the community from being annihilated by the enemy].
