This is sort of in response to my thread int the Creative Writing forum. First off:
1) What is your flag? (post a picture too if you want, but you don't have to).
2) What do you think of your flag? (aesthetically and politically)
3) What is your opinion of national flags? (are they good, bad, or do you not really have any strong feelings about them either way?
&
4) Are you a patriot? And what do you think of patriotism?
You think the only people who are people, are the people who look and think like you.

I like the colours. Blue and white looks nice with just two colours. The only problem with white is that when it's flying outside it gets dirty.
The crosses do not officially reflect Christianity like the crescent reflects Islam in Muslim flags, but yes, that's the background of the Danish flag where it comes from. It's common with the Nordic countries. But I'd say historically Finnish values base a lot on hard-working protestant work ethics.
What to think of flags? Well, we humans have found it nice to represent things, not just nationalism. There's the peace flag, rainbow flag and what not too. They're nice, but I'm not offended if they're set on fire – they shouldn't be that strong of a symbol.
I'm a patriot in the sense that I think national countries are a very succesful form of governing. Just look at Belgium, Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union and so on (eventhough it worked in the 19th Century with wide imperialistic kingdoms). I support diverse and different countries, not just some cosmopolitan multiculturalism without borders. That kind of a global society wouldn't work. So yes, I am for national interests because national level represents local democracy and usually common interests. And I'm not irritated if the British support British interests and so on.
2) What do you think of your flag? (aesthetically and politically)
It's a flag. Generally you see them when someone's supporting a football team. When I see one that's the image it brings to my mind - some fat moron shouting IN-GA-LAND in a crowd.
3) What is your opinion of national flags? (are they good, bad, or do you not really have any strong feelings about them either way?
-shrug- They're bits of cloth. And they're symbols. I think lots of people take them way too seriously in the latter regard.
4) Are you a patriot? And what do you think of patriotism?
No.
What am I meant to be in it for? The government? I hate my government. The people? Why should I care more about the English than the French, or the Dutch, or the...?
I live in the UK because I was born here. That's about it. The minute I'm reasonably wealthy... bye bye England. I'll go somewhere less shit, thanks.
Would you like to come to Switzerland with me in the next decade or two?

1-3: You probably know the German flag. I have no strong feelings about it one way or the other, except that I think it is somewhat silly to go parading it around. This applies to all national flags, in my opinion.
4: I'm not a patriot. Patriotism and nationalism are very similar concepts, which are only good for recruiting cannon fodder, making people overlook the deficiencies of their society and giving them a false sense of accomplishment.

2) What do you think of your flag? (aesthetically and politically)
Aesthetically:
Not bad. I like the crescent moon, along with the red and white combo.
Politically:
Remnant of something which has ended long ago. Only the symbolism applies, nothing more.

Flags don't representing anything but recognition of the people who bear it and their culture/traditions. Nothing more... Good? Bad? I don't know. I'd burn them, actually.

I was a patriot until a few months ago, you might remember that pretty well...
Now, I just think it's the most shittiest and bloodcosty hoax since the history of nations.
1. If you don't know what the American flag looks like...consider yourself lucky.
2. It's pretty, I guess.
b. Politically, I really think that the flag symbolizes something different than what it should. I remember a time when the flag could be seen as a symbol of hope, now I just see it as a symbol of attempting growing imperialism.
3.They reflect a country, and it's history...depending on the flag. So overall, not bad.
4. Not really. I think the US is a better country than some, but I'm not going to give my life for it and it's corrupt government, it's people...maybe...
